Hello
This time P-51D has landed on my workbench
It will be my first time with NMF aircraft, so I've chosen painless kit from Tamiya, to prevent any problems at the building step. And that is the reason I’m going to built it pretty much out from the box, except some decals. I’ve just received the new decal set from Kagero with PTO mustangs. HERE you can fond a great review of this set. Although I decided to made this kit without any aftermarkets, I’ve started with some ‘wireing’. I make some electric cables with thin tin wire, and air hose wia apiece of guitar string.I’m usual starting paintwork with a coat of silver paint. This time too. Next I airbrushed interior with green (dedicated to the japan planes:> ) and highligted it with ZCY. Black surfaces are pained with a flat black, slightly highlighted with anthracite nato black.
At the same time I’ve started paintwork on the Staff Car vehicle. I’m going to mount both, vehicle and mustang on a small grassy base, with some figures. For a interior color I used duck egg, highligted with offwhite. Seats were painted with different tones of brown. Mats on the floor were made with some pieces of masking foil (I don’t care, if this kind of mats was used in a middle ’40; I made them to hide some ejector pin marks).

Great to see another of your builds in progress Kamil, I always enjoy them.
Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom. Peace be with you.
On the Tarmac: 1/48 Revell P-38
In the Hanger: A bunch of kits
Looking good so far Kamil....... gotta luv those fall-together kits..... great stress relievers... and they produce an outstanding result.
Mostly thanks for sharing
Bill
Enjoy the ride!
Very cool Kamil, always happy to see another pony grace these pages

many thanks for a warm welcome for this WIP
A little progress. A plywood floor I paint with a vallejo's burnt umber and beige, mixed when still wet, just on the plastic part surface. Other details in the pilot's cockpit were painted with vallejos, too.
a little update on a vehicle's interior
Very nice Kamil... both seem to be coming along great!
Reasoned Great to see another of your builds in progress Kamil, I always enjoy them.
Yes! We get a double-dip too.
I'm sure this will be stunning when finished. What are you using for the NMF?
Eric
Don't forget, Kamil! The box-like unit underneath the radio was a rubberized fuel tank. It should be more of a blackish color to simulate rubber. Otherwise, i LOVE the markings! I just picked up some VLR Mustang markings from Cutting Edge. Gotta love those markings.

Oh yeah, I never knew that. That would have come in handy about 3 months ago when I built 2 ponies at the same time. I never came across that information when reviewing the cockpit details, thanks.
LOL! I found out the hard way, too. I picked up one of those "Detail & Scale" books and there was a superb picture showing the two wing fuel tanks and the fuselage fuel tank all stacked together. Upon seeing that picture, I realized all my previous Mustangs were painted wrong in that area. Oh well. All the more reason to get yet another one and do it right!
Some update on the mustang.Because pilots cockpit will be 'filled' with the figure, I didn't pay a big attention to its details and weathering. Just the wash was made, details were slightly exposed with a drybrush, and paintchips were scratched on some surfaces. For the mud on the floor tamiya's weathering stick was used.
about the fuel tank- because fuselage is closed now, I can't to repait it.
About painting of the surfaces- because original mustangs were covered with different kinds of metal, and some surfaces were painted with silver paint, I'm going to use several metalizers and silver paints from gunze and tamiya.
OK, I repainted the fuel tank with black.. It was a kind of colorectal surgery :>
now I'm polishing the connection of fuselage halves
Looking great so far.
next I mount the wing on the fuselage. After that was really a time consuming step: polishing and sanding of whole surfaces. It is necessary when you are going to paint any surface with metalizers
ittle update at the vehicle. I mount wheels and finished dashboard. I've also started works on the figures. Besides figures from the kit I'm going to use one from the Preiser's set. As you can see, there will be some scratch o it necessary (note that left side of the figure is untouched, right side is after some corrections)
Because I had to finish some 'armor project'
there were a big brake with this building. But let's back..I've prepared to paint the vehicle. Windows were masked with Tamiya's tape.
Moreover I made the ceiling with a black masking foil- to cover some 'unwanted' details
..and ready to paint:
The main theme of this thread is Mustang. I've started its painting with a coat of Gunze's silver. This paint shows better if the surface is prepared well than any surfacer. To get more fine surface I covered whole aircraft with clear cote
Next I painted NMF surfaces with Gunze's plate silver supermatelic
looks great. cant wait to see more
Models on the bench:
Too many to count!
Sorry if this is taking this off topic, I reckon you're doing a bit of that youself or I wouldn't have seen that armour to ask, what the heck is it? I've not seen anything like that before & wondered if its a whatif, something from Halo or from the deepest depths of the eastern Bloc?
Steve.
Ok, 2 questions.
1. For the mustang, you started painting it with gunze silver, THEN, clearcoat overall. THEN, gunze silver supermetallic, correct?
2. You are the guy who did the dio of the destroyed japenese freighter and the US carrier flight deck in a larger scale, correct? If so, this will be a very nice mustang, cant wait to see more!
@ Steve: Are you asking about ShkH DANA?
B-17 Guy 1. For the mustang, you started painting it with gunze silver, THEN, clearcoat overall. THEN, gunze silver supermetallic, correct?
Indeed. I used silver paint as a basecoat, because it shows best all weaknesses of the surface
B-17 Guy2. You are the guy who did the dio of the destroyed japenese freighter and the US carrier flight deck in a larger scale, correct?
No, it wasn't my work. The only large scale wreck I've done was Fw 190 on Dragon Wagon

Kamil, thanks for the info about the ShkH Dana gun, its a beast. I'm not normally into armour but for one of those I'd cross over. Do you have a page for it? I could see one on your site? Whose & what scale is it? As for your Dragon wagon, that is superb. Having seen these, I'm even more looking forward to seeing this P-51 built.
This is 1/35 model from Hobby Boss

built almost straight from the box. I used 'aftermarket' decals from ToRo with markings for Polish vehicles used in Afghanistan, and sculpt three figures for this project. Whole building log of this vignette was prepared as an article for one of the magazines, so to be fair to the publisher I don't want to post on the web too many pictures before it will appeared in print. I hope you understand.
Totally understand. I'll keep an eye out for it, I hope it will be in a mag we get out here in New Zealand. Now I will stop distracting you from your Mustang before some one tells me off for keeping you from the important things. Thank you.
As I've said it is my very first try with NMF aircraft, so I experimented a little. Mixing metalizers or paints to get some different tones of panels and surfaces. There were a lot of retouches and changes of colors, but finally it is ready to decals applying
Ooooo! She's a BEAUT!!! You just don't see much about those Pacific Mustangs. They had quite the bit of markings! I've got a set of aftermarket decals for this same squadron and I can't wait to build that one up, too.
I can't wait to see more pictures! She's looking good already.
A minor update on 'additions'. Over the basecoat of Olive drab I painted some highlights using mix of base tone and neutral gray
there are all three figures ready to paint
Stunning work as usual Kamil.
