                        I have asked about Floquil being lacquer based in the past on this forum and have never gotten an answer as to when they changed the thinner base of these paints so I emailed Testors to ask them about it.
                        Here is the answer I received and I thought some of you might be interested in this bit of trivia. Big Smile [:D]

                        QUOTE: Hi Mike,

                        Thank you for your inquiry. I will try to answer your question
                        regarding the Floquil paints.

                        Under the previous organization Floquil was a lacquer based paint.
                        However about 8-9 years ago the Floquil brand was consolidated with
                        Testor under a reorganization plan initiated by our parent company RPM.
                        (RPM owned both Testor and Floquil). When this occurred production of
                        Floquil paint was phased into the Testor product line. It was at this
                        point (about 7 yrs. ago) that Floquil was re-formulated to an enamel
                        based paint.

                        Floquil is now currently either enamel or acrylic (Polly-Scale) based
                        paints.

                        If you have any other questions or comments please let me know.

                        So there you have it. Floquil was changed to an enamel based paint about 7 years ago and is no longer lacquer based.

                        I wish the primer was still lacquer based as it had more "bite" to it, but it is still good enough I think.

                        Which is why you no longer need Diosol as a thinner or to spray Barrier before you used the primer. The older Floquil was great paint, but was really hot. More intended for use on metal, not styrene. However, the now discontinued Floquil Military colors were always enamel.

                        Thats good to know, Mike. I don't use a lot of enamel and very seldom use laquer. Sometimes enamel is just the way to go though, so I do use a little bit.

                        I am going to start using a lot more PolyScale acrylics though. My F-4E has Tamiya gray on the bottom, Model Master green (two shades) and PolyScale brown on top. Of all 3 brands (4 colors) the PS painted much, MUCH better than the others.
