Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, August 27, 2005 9:43 AM
Anybody know of any photo's of the Hercules Recovery unit that replaced the M-88. I have only seen it on video in Baghdad tearing saddams statue down.

AEF designs do the full kit , what is it like ??

Is it based on the Abrams chassis ??

As ever Thank you in Advance.

The Hurcules is an M88A2. It is an upgraded M88 chasis, not built on an Abrams chasis.

The AEF kit is a conversion kit and you still need the AFV Club M88A1 kit to build an M88A2. I heave heard it is not a very good set. AEF is hit or miss on their quality. Pretty pricey too.

Looks like this:

A Google Image Search for M88A2 will give you lots of pics too.

Here is more info on it.

A USMC M88A2 took down the statue in Firdos Square, Baghdad, Iraq, 9 APR 03.  I believe it was from 3rd Tank Bn.

Not the best pic.

This one shows it better with the square boom of an M88A2.

Verlinden does the Saddam statue from the Firdos Square too.
