Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

**Sorry you missed us, but this GB has run it's course and is now over. Thus I'd like to give a shoutout to all my fellow modelers who joined up to participate in this GB and make it a success. Thanks guys!

If your wondering when I'll host my next GB.......be on the lookout in fall 2009. Hope to see you then.Wink [;)]**

         -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the official thread for the Lend-Lease GB which ran from January 1, 2009 to July 1, 2009. Sorry if you missed this GB, but we are no longer accepting any new entries. However their are still modelers finishing up their builds. So still feel free to pop in, ask questions, and check out the great builds.

The purpose of this GB is to model armor, artillery, aircraft, or ships that were actually part of the Lend-Lease Act. Thus the obvious main rule of this GB is that the vehicle you are modeling must have been part of the Lend-Lease Act.

For those who don't know what the Lend-Lease Act was, here's a quick history lesson......The Lend-Lease Act was the name of the program under which the U.S.A. supplied the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and other Allied Nations, with vast amounts of war material between 1941 and 1945. Allowing the president to "sell, transfer title to, exchange, lease, lend, or otherwise dispose of" weapons and materials such as non-ferrous metals, petroleum products, and food supplies in order to help defend nations vital to U.S. security.

        GB rules:

  • All builds must either be painted in the "receiving" nations paint scheme, or in a paint scheme from the "lending" nation. (For example, if you build a Mk.IV Churchill it can either be painted in a British paint scheme, or a Soviet paint scheme.)
  • Reverse Lend-Lease vehicles are also acceptable builds.
  • Kit's must be unstarted.
  • AM, PE, and scratch building is welcome and encouraged.
  • Any scale.
  • Multiple entries are welcome, but no crossover builds.

If you don't know if the armor, artillery, aircraft, or ship you want to build was part of the Lend-Lease Act, here's a list of some of the acceptable entries, though not all the Lend-Lease vehicles are on this list. So if you're not sure the vehicle you want to build was part of the Lend-Lease Act, just ask.

Good idea. I have a Dragon M4a1 76mm in the stash that I would put Polish markings on. Would this be good for this GB? If so count me in.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09 to 7/1/09)

Im definatly in for this one, not sure what with at the moment. Im seriously tempted by a Grumman Avenger in 1:48th scale though. Im also tempted to attempt my first major converison for this build. It will be building a Pitcair PC2 autogyro from another autogyro kit.

By the way your list of aeroplanes is not extensive, i could post a complete list later if you want.

Mikeal,

You might want to take the Tigercat off the list.  It did not become operational until the day before the Japanese surrendered.  The Fleet Air Arm did obtain two for evaluation purposes but decided against it as a result of low speed handling and visibility problems.  As far as  I know, the USN and USMC were the only armed services to use them.  This looks like an interesting build, I'll know closer to the end of the year.

mg.mikael-Looks like a lot of interest.  I'm going to wait until early '09 before I decide, but I was just wondering-would the P-51 Mustang in RAF colours qualify?

The RAF recieved Mustangs under the lend lease so i would say yes. Lets see what the leader says though.

I looked into it and I found that Polish forces used a wide variety of Shermans redirected from Lend-Lease shipments to the British Empire. So you're M4A1 76mm with polish markings, is in. Smile [:)]

Cool. Better dig it out.

By the way, it is 1/35. Didn't specify that earlier.

Stickman you gave me a good brain scratcher, and here's what I found: "Initially seeing much action in France and Italy under the control of British armed forces, the Wolverines (Achilles when in the British inventory) were upgraded to use the British 17-pounder main gun (becoming the Achilles Mk IC).It was used by the British, Canadian and Polish armies in Italy and North-West Europe." So..........because the British got the Wolverine through the Lend-Lease Act, and then they upgraded it to the Achilles. With the Canadians then getting some from the British, to use in the fighting. That means you're Achilles in Canadian markings is in!Smile [:)]

Just to clarify, are you only including stuff that went to the Russian front or are you including stuff the UK forces used?

This GB consists of all vehicles part of the Lend-Lease Act. So that means all vehicles that went to the Soviets, UK, and all the other allied nations as part of the Lend-Lease Act are acceptable.
