It's been quite a while since I last posted pictures of my work here on FSM-Forums. Thus I decided to share with you the (slow) progress I'm making on Academy's 1/35 Pave Hawk. Besides using Eduard's PE and Cobra Co's resin sets I made some scratch work. Pilot (modified Nemrod figure), just have to add a PE microphone:
Seats:
Side bulkheads (scratch built): Lower interior (spinal board is scratch built and backpacks are resin)
Roof
Instrument panel Comments and criticism are welcome. Thanks for looking.

Looking great. Nice work on the interior. Should have some updates on my Jayhawk soon too. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Very nice build. I wish the pilots would have downloaded though. For some reason my computer will not allow me to see them. Can not wait to see more. Charlie

Hmmm... your pilot should be a doctor, can't read a word of his handwritting :p just kidding I used to be all about helicopter models, they're what got me into the hobby until armor sucked me in. I'm going to have to get back to some birds after this awesome kit your making! I really love the spine board!- is it sheet styrene? looks pretty accurate from what I can see. I'm unfamiliar with modern helos- is this a medic bird or do they all carry spineboards? It would make sense.. The backpacks look great too, I really love all the little details you got in there. :) Thanks for sharring

Thanks Helo 53, HeavyArty, Retired Gunpilot and psstoff995!![Bow [bow]](/emoticons/icon_smile_bow.gif) I started to work on this helo 3 years ago but only this summer I decided to work seriously on it. It's my entry for a group build so I HAVE TO get it done for Jan 1st! I'll be posting updates as I make progress ... but don't hold your breath on those! It's exciting to be of inspration to someone, Helo 53 ... please continue to flatter me! To your questions psstoff995

Yes, sir, it's sheet styrene. I printed out a picture I found on the internet, glued it on a piece of styrene, cut it to shape and drilled out the "holes". psstoff995 wrote: | | I'm unfamiliar with modern helos- is this a medic bird or do they all carry spineboards? It would make sense.. |

The Pave Hawk is used for SAR/CSAR (in this case it's designated HH-60G) or special operations (they'll call it MH-60G in that case). "My" helo will be in a little diorama showing the aftermath of a rescue, so it's carrying a board.

Oh wow very cool. Learn something new every day. As far as the dio goes I'm definitely excited to see that! As far as the pilot looks, the rescue either went well or he's been doing this too long. Just business as usual...

Today's update sets a milestone in my build: the fuselage halves are toghether! ![Party [party]](/emoticons/icon_smile_party.gif)
Added microphone to the pilot's helmet:
An overview of the interior; the wires are for the minigun and the ammo chutes were a pain in the ... to install: Eventually the two halves are together! Installed winshield and dry fitting: After taking this picture I realized that I forgot to install the rear wheel!!! Now I have to come up with a smart idea on how to install it without separating the fuselage halves!

haha aww thats no fun, doesn't sound like the worst mistake ever. I'm sure you could always file off the guide pins and get the wheel housing smooth enough to simply glue directly onto the lower part of the tail, fill the empty hole in the tail to give it something smooth to fit to and then just putty it all together. Kinda like working with PE that doesn't come with any guide marks though... a little hit or miss. I'm sure you'll think of something. Other than that your WIP looks awesome! The wireing and ammo shoots look great!! I really like the mic detail on the pilot too. One question, I'm sure it's attatched the way it should, but from the pictures the M4 hanging up in the back looks like it was floating and someone glued it to the wall, how do they mount that? It doesn't look tied down, I'm assuming there's a little shelf thingy. And with no side door as of yet I'm assuming you're going to prop it open? Should look awesome and open up a view of all the cockpit details!!

Dang! You got me there: in real life they are strapped on as you suppose; in my model it's super glue! Both cargo doors will remain open and the "office" door on the pilot side, too. This way all the work I did on the interior won't be lost.

Oh ![Blush [:I]](/emoticons/icon_smile_blush.gif) sorry, I really thought there was some kind of shelving system, I thought I'd learn something else new, didn't mean to call you out. As a figure/armor dio builder the M4 just jumped out at me for some reason. Glad to hear you're gunna open her up! I'm guessing for the dio you're going to have this on the tarmac then? Is there a ground crew/parajumper team thats going to be mulling around as well? You were going to have this as the rescue aftermath right? I don’t know what you were planning on doing but in my mind I pictured the inside of the copter a mess with all kinds of gauze and bandaging, packaging and maybe a hint of blood? With the guys from the back of the bird helping a splinted up GI limp over to a waiting med crew... But that’s probably a lot of inaccurate missteps as I’ve taken my knowledge of the back of an ambulance and converted that to a rescue helicopter... I’m sure halve the extra gauze would take flight out the side of the bird anyway... oh well. But again, looks great so far!

Well ... actually this aftermath is less messed up than you described. My dio is inspired by a picture I saw of an actual event: in 2003 an A-10 crashed over Baghdad and a team of PJs on a MH-60G rescued the downed pilot. Apparently the A-10-Pilot took no harm in the accident so no blood or bandages ... Here are two pictures of the event: As you see there will be two PJs, A pilot and the helow crew included in the dio.

Thanks guys. Currently I'm puttying and sanding so not much to show. Oh and I figured a way to get the rear gear installed without opening the halves again ...

Avus, Looking good! I still "dream" of when I'll get time to scratch on plastic again! Heh, heh! I've got 6 of the 1/35 Black Hawks in my stash, 2 of each type they issued.

Before this weeks update let me just state that: this kit sucks!! ![Censored [censored]](/emoticons/icon_smile_censored.gif) There is not one part that fits with it's counterpart! Oh how I whis this kit was done by Tamiya or Hasegawa! ![Banged Head [banghead]](/emoticons/icon_smile_banghead.gif) I guess I'll start working on the Black Hawk I have in my stash, only in a few years, once I have cooled down my spirits. Now to the update: Trimmed the exhaust covers (left before right after the treatment): Added Cobra Co's plume detectors to the front gears: Assembled the HIRSS and placed it on the cover: Assembled painted and polished the Miniguns: Performed the "surgery" on the tail gear: enlarged the hole and opened the pins:

Its coming along great. Its not really a bad kit, just lots of small stuff to fix if you want to get it looking great. Keep up the good work.
