1/48 HiPM HE-100D

Hey all,

Doing this in the Prototype GB All Eras.

All,

Sorry for the absence, the PC was wounded in actionBlack Eye <img src=" border="0" width="15" height="15" /> and recovering in a field hospital for 10 days. Now we're back at the front and ready for actionBig Smile <img src=" border="0" width="15" height="15" />.

Broke the "honey do list" rule and started on the HE-100D. Following are some pics and narrative of progress to date.

Contents of kit. Nice little PE set included. Otherwise pretty basic kit.

Because the cockpit was so basic I decided to take a crack at adding some styrene bits and extra PE details from other kits.

The details are most likely not to scale but I was happy with the results for the first try at scratch building details.

Cockpit ready for paint.

Built this jig to assemble individual prop blades. Instructions courtsey of IPMS Stockholm web site.

And the results.

Next up a wash for the cockpit and the assembly of major compenents.

Thanks for looking.

Scorpr2,

Jig worked great. A little styrene, some super glue, and about 20 minutes to bulid.

Thanks

Great looking progress Tom!  Too bad about the real -100, a sexy looking beast if there ever was one. Thumbs Up [tup]

Great idea on the jig, do you have link to the instructions for it by chance?

Nice work so far.  This is not a shake the box kit, so take your time & dry fit major components before you glue.

Rick,

Thanks for the tip. I have taped together the fuselage and wings and can already see issues with the fit at the wing roots and underside of the fuselage. A chance to improve my scratch building and seam filling skills!

She is looking good so far. The added detail looks great. I  am going to have to check out that prop jig trick to on the next PIA build I try with the separate blades. They should hang the mold maker who first decided it would be easier to make them that way! I almost bought this kit last week. I figured since I had the Classic Airframes He 112 I should have the He 100 to right? Looking foward to seeing more.

Soulcrusher,

Thanks! What scale is the HE-112? Any pics? If so, love to see them.

Re: 1/48 HiPM HE-100D

Tom the He 112 is the 1/48 Classic Airframes offering. It is not the most impressive short run kit especially compared to most of the other Classic Airframes offerings. I should know I have 25  other Classic Airframe kits stashed away! I have not yet built it but from what I see of your   He 100 it looks to be around the same level of quality. They pop up from time to time on eBay and they can be a little hard to find. It would look really cool next to have both of them in the display case side by side that is why I was thinking about grabing the HiPM kit when I saw it.

Re: 1/48 HiPM HE-100D

Tom, looks like being a cool build.

I always thought the He100 a better looking machine than the 109.

I noticed Special Hobby are releasing a 1/32 He100 now.

Re: 1/48 HiPM HE-100D

Karl,

Thanks for looking. The He-100 probably is sleeker being designed for spped first and combat second.

I too saw the 1/32 scale He-100. My 1/32 scale builds hang from my boy's bedroom ceilings. Unless the wife let's me decorate our ceiling I'll be sticking to 1/48!

Re: 1/48 HiPM HE-100D

I can't believe it's been over a month since I posted an update. I am however making some progress.

Finished cockpit with PE seat belts provided with the kit.

Cockpit side walls with PE details(provide with kit) and a wash to bring out details.

Major parts assembled and seams filled. For a short run kit it did not require excessive filling.

I need to rescribe some panel lines, add some small parts and then on to paint.

Thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions welcome.

Re: 1/48 HiPM HE-100D

Nice work so far!

I've had this kit hiding in my stash for some time now and it looks like a fun build... not too many headaches.

I can't wait to see how it comes out... might give me inspiration to start mine.

Re: 1/48 HiPM HE-100D

Glad to see you post some more work on this one. The cockpit looks good. its nice to see a plane that is not done that often. Looking foward to seeing it with some color on it. I might have to pick one up now that I see it is an pretty decent kit.

Looking good Tom!  You've gotten a lot done here in a month.  The wash really brought out the details in the office. Thumbs Up [tup]

Re: 1/48 HiPM HE-100D
Thanks all for the compliments. Based on the build so far I would recommend this kit. It's an interesting subject and any modeler with some scratch building and seam filling experience should have little difficulty building this.
