Now that many of the projects I've been working on are finished, here is an update on what's going on at Maddog Manufacturing's Rotary Wing Division. 

Here is a couple shots of the 1/72 scale Gran Mi-1 Hoplite that I started about a week ago. This first shows how it was after the first day I started it:

Not much I know, but those are the clear parts and there's still another one I have to fit on it. The blue is the interior color. So far it's fitting together pretty well for an Eastern European kit, but the last clear part is gonna have issues. I can tell from the test fitting...



Now on to some of the projects I started.

I decided I needed to build a few more helicopters. So, I started with one that I got from John's Models in Pensacola when I was there earlier this month. I met a friend and fellow LEMur named Robert and he took me in to the back room of John's where the stash of a recently passed member of his club was being inventoried for sale. I chose a 1/72 scale Hobby Boss Sea Knight since I'd been needing one for my Marines. It had been started by the previous owner who did an outstanding job on the interior painting. All I had to do was finish some of the final assembly of the cockpit (seats) and then close it into the fuselage.

Here it is all closed up. You can see where I had some difficulty getting it closed up. Gonna need a little filler underneath, but this is coming together pretty well so far.






Next is another model of a 1/72 scale Italeri HH53C helicopter I'm going to do in Vietnam colors. I got the interior finished up here:

I then installed all the interior windows to the main fuselage. Here is the interior test-fit inside the fuselage halves:

A small update:

On the 1/72 scale Italeri CH-53 helicopter, I assembled the fuselage, trapping the two ramp doors and the main rotor shaft in place. I have it clamped and taped so that it dries as closed as I can get it:

That's all so far. I'll keep you posted on more progress. 

For those still following this Thread, here is the latest done on  my Helicopters.

I only really got some progress on two of the helicopters I'm working on. There was a lot of filling and sanding that still needs to be done to the CH-53. So, I went ahead and worked more on the other two helicopters.

First is my Mi-1 Hoplite. It's up on it's wheels, all the detail parts are installed, and it has it's basecoat on:

The windows show a lot of glare because I'm still trying to buff out the scratches that happened when I tried to sand the seams on this front canopy. A little more and it should look good enough with a coat of Future on it.

On the Sea Knight, I added the last few detail parts and then gave it a basecoat. The instructions said to use an 'engine gray'. Well, I pulled out my engine gray and it was dried up. So, I compared it to all my other grays to see what the closest color match was. It was Polly Scale Grimy Black!

So that is what the basecoat on this model is:





If this color ain't right, I expect some Marines to set me straight. This bird is going to my Marine Corps.

They look great Mark! I presume they will be done in time for August's meeting?

I hit both AMPS, but had too much going for the June IPMS. The car "cruise night" thing is not my interest, so I passed on July. I will be there in Augaust (and of ocurse AMPS)

I'm almost done with two of these helicopters, for anyone that is interested. I know I don't build them that well compared to most of the helicopter builders here, so if anyone wishes to give some pointers, I'd love to hear them.

 

Meanwhile, here's the couple of helicopters that I got decals on.

This is my Mi-1 Hoplite:

I realized when I was putting on the decals that I needed to still paint the underside a light sky blue. I'll do that after the decals dry overnight. Then all I have to do is fix the main rotor, add it to the model and this bird is done!

This is my Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight:



I was really loving these decals! They went on so well and stayed on! This was actually fun to decal! All that's left on this is a little bit of touchup paint, adding the last few detail parts and placing the rotors on and it'll be finished.
