Verlinden has some available ... as well as Nemrod, I think. I guess it depends on what scale ou want to work with.

Dragon did those as part of their "Urban Elite" series of figures. Along with LAPD SWAT, NYPD SWAT, GSG-9, and I think it was a Hong Kong police unit. They no longer show on Dragons website.

BGuy, I spent about 4 months looking for some of those 1/35 Dragon SAS figures from the Urban Elite series, along with the NYPD ESU, LAPD SWAT and Hong Kong Special Duties Unit (basically, this is the same as the SAS kit, just HK SDU wear kevlar helmets, not just balaclavas and Avon APR masks). I finally was able to procure them (all except the LAPD SWAT) from a few different eBay auctions for a good price each. That's where I'd recommend them. I also did a Google search for them and found a few from other online hobby sources (none I'd ever heard of before, so that's why I stuck with the eBay route).

Senojrn, Your story sounds like what my own started out to be--a long search for these kits in obscure places over a period of months. Instead I've decided to cut it short and instead got a Verlinden 120mm figure from operation Nimrod: I'll definitely keep an eye out for the urban elite series kits but at least now I have a project to work on in the meantime. :) Any advice before I start this kit? I've done figures before of course, but I'm still new and haven't ever done one this large before.

Don't let the size scare you, if anything it makes for better detail and easier detail painting ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/icon_smile_wink.gif) Just post a WIP thread and some of the great 1/16 scale figure makers on here will lead you along. That's a nice looking kit btw, I've been wanting one, just never got around to adding it to the stash. I'm assuming you've worked with resin, if so, it's really just a bigger version of the same- definitly fill the seams and sand down the large chuncks smooth- and I'd really recomend pinning the arms/legs/head to make sure they're really on there- don't leave this thing to mear super glue. Each limb has a good weight to it. Good luck! Also on finding those 1/35 guys. There a lot of old Dragon 4 figure kits that I wish they'd continue to produce, all very specific and specialized subjects, great for dio work

Well, I promised some IP photos once I got the kit--sorry I'm so late into the project but there wasn't much worth showing until now: The kit itself had NO instructions, as is the case with most verlinden figures. Nonetheless it went together well enough--I used pins and gap filling CA. Although prepping of the resin (removal of the pour blocks) was a pain, I was pleased to find that cleanup was otherwise minimal. Once together on my working base I primed with Tamiya grey from the rattle-can and laid down a basecoat of a Tamiya acrylic mixture--mostly flat black with some pink thrown in to lighten it, (the pink/flesh additive seems to be a common trick for black uniforms). From there my figure newbie-ness showed as I started painting stuff (with W&N oils mostly) almost willy-nilly, not inside-out as is the cardinal rule. Despite this, I think I've managed a sufficient performance thus far. I've done some shading and blending in most areas and coloured other important components. The boots, weaponry and head are set aside and also mostly done. There appears to be a radio of some kind on the figure's left hip but I don't have any references on this at all--even Verlinden's box doesn't cover this angle. Anybody have data on SAS comms gear from this period? Also, does anybody have experience with oil painting media such as those made by Grumbacher? I'm using their medium #1 which claims to leave a matte finish but its nowhere near what I want to achieve--for this I'll have to fall back on PolyScale's flat finish once again. While it seems to me (especially in my closeup shots) that this is thus far a barely adequate performance I've really enjoyed myself and already have another 120mm figure ordered. Any feedback, especially constructive criticism, is most welcome.

First and formost, that's really the important part. Other than that, I think you have a pretty good handle on what you're doing, especially for an older Verlin kit with no instructions. The colors look pretty good, only thing I might suggest would be getting the vest a little darker. Right now it looks like it was the same color as the clothes and it just has more shading than the rest. I think it’s too blue/gray for a black vest, but that’s just my opinion, and it’s hard to tell from the photograph. Did you use a flash when you took the pictures? I’ve found that that really changes how they look- especially in close up shots. I’d take the figure outside and get some pictures in natural light without the flash, it should look more like how you painted it originally. The only other thing is, I think the shotgun is a little to silver/gray, in my experience, blued steal is more of a darker brownish black almost. I do like the wooden handle in the belt (a hammer perhaps? Can’t really tell what it is) and your work with the forearm on the shotgun. Looks good to me- other than that, I think the only problem you might be having is the fact that, for the most part, the figure is wearing all similar colors and getting a good variation across all that “fabric” can be difficult to achieve some good contrast and make it look like it’s not just a monotone figure. But I’m glad you’re enjoying it and you’ve picked up more 120mm figures- also glad to hear construction went well! This is a nice looking kit so far, I’m sure with the head/boots and then some final, overall weathering (for example- also to break up the monotone of the gray uniform- I’d add some tarmac dust to the knees, boots, lower portion of the pants, maybe even elbows, just to break up all that gray)- it should look great! Hope someone can chime in on the radio info for you

I can't really say too much about the colors. our camera flashes are really drowning them out. Use some desk lamps for lighting instead. Or wait until closer to dusk when the sun is low and take pics outside. This will give you more of a true color in the pictures. As far as the construction .... everything looks good from there. Everyone has there own technique when it comes to figures. Strangely enough, I like to slmost complete the fig before I start painting. But yours looks spot on. The shot gun looks great and if I could say anything it would be to add a little more depth to the clothing .... however, I know that its not done yet, so I'll shut-up and wait ... ![Taped Shut [XX]](/emoticons/icon_smile_tapedshut.gif) Thanks again for the pics .... keep them coming.
