I got the three sets I wanted. Other than that I have not given it much thought. Maybe he is seeing how much interest there would be for some new business venture.

Or the prediction a lot of people made when he closed shop came true: he waiited awhile then offered up his wares at jacked-up prices to make a quick buck...

Re: Meteor Decals...

If you watch the video he states that he was going through a divorce which is probally why he closed up shop. Meteor Products was just a sideline buisness for him. He also stated that he plans to run off small batches of decals then send out emails when their ready to everyone that has purchased from him before. I do'nt think it means he will not sell to you if you have not bought from him before he just has no way to contact you and he is not opening up another store. The prices that the last batch of decals were listed at the same prices that they sold for originally. If you want someting you have to buy it because it will be sold out in a couple of days. His decals were always some of the best researched and printed around.

Re: Meteor Decals...

I bought several decal sheets and resin sets from Dave when Meteor was still in business and was quite pleased with the items and service.  I did not buy any of the recently offered items because they were not something I was interested in building.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this last effort was actually much discounted from the previous Meteor prices. My thought was that he is "testing the waters" to see if he should re-surface as a new company, but that's pure speculation on my part. Either that or he ran across some excess inventory!

Re: Meteor Decals...
Didn't he also carry some really nice resin upgrades that were "the only game in town?"  I agree that he carried some of the best decal lines around.  There was a lot of folks upset when he closed doors and did not sell his lines, molds, etc. to another company that was operating, as many people felt they would never get a chance to obtain AM parts/decals they needed to start/finish projects they had been planning for years...

Re: Meteor Decals...

He had some pretty cool stuff, for sure. ONe of the items he was coming out with, but never made it, was a single gun nose glass for the B-17F. That was on my want list!!

His SR-71 and U-2 resin kits were supposedly very nice. Some of the eBay prices on his stuff when he closed were astronomical!

Staying out of his personal life, I really give him credit for establishing his niche. He offered nice quality, desirable items. I only bought some of his decals, and they were of top quality.

Re: Meteor Decals...

I got invite, seems he only sent it out to those who purchaced in the past. But the sale was still open to the public. I posted the link over at Swanny's.

Jacked Up Prices? Only if you have no choice in buying them. Someone can jack up the price of gas, you have to have that. While his decals are great quality, if you don't like the price, don't buy it.

Seems to me he can set any price he wants for the product he makes, if they sale then people see the value, if they don't, he's not going to sell anything.

I agree with the Mucker, his personal life is just that, personal.

Re: Meteor Decals...

Got my 4 sets and looking forward for the "freebie" downloads he's working on as well as the next batch of decals he puts up.

FWIW.....I bought a lot of stuff from Dave at his online store, his Saturday sales at the brick and mortar warehouse and his tables at IPMS shows over the years and never had any problems whatsoever. His resin was top notch as were his other products. Glad he has decided to get back into the business.

Those B-17 noses, there were several variations, were right on the cusp of release. I had spoke to Dave several times about them during the development phase and was majorly bummed when they got shelved at the last minute.

Well, I'm not so sure that I'd go that far...this "special sale" may be a one time deal to raise money for summer vacation...

I've bought many decal sheet form Dave, and a few resin sets also. But I didn't get an invite for whatever he has going on now. His decals were top notch and I have many sets of his Pyn-Up series.

Re: Meteor Decals...

I really got bummed out when the 1/32 scale conversion resin sets for the early Me 109 kits and decal sets got ditched I even bought the old Hasegawa Me 109 the basis for ther conversion. About a week after I got the Hasegawa 1/32 Me 109 he annouced the closing. I was really looking foward to building a 1/32 scale Me 109 C/D model. Oh well. Plenty of other kits to build.

If you hear anything else on them, please let me know Swanny. I still want the single MG nose!
