Can't find Future!

Hi guys,

I live in Australia and cannot seem to track down Future.  Does anyone who lives in Aus know of a place to source it?

 Thanks.

Hi, postal...

I had the same problem here in the US until I found out that "Pledge" bought the name brand - look for pledge floor polish?

I just checked online - Apparently Pledge ONE GO is the equivalent, according to my hits-Your mileage may vary...

Thanks for the info guys!  It looks like One Go is the stuff that I'll track down.  Now if only my airbrush was here so I could get painting!

Re: Can't find Future!

Here in Australia there is no direct equivalent of Future (or "Pledge with Future Shine") The most commonly available counterparts, Pledge One Go and Reckitt's Pascoe's Long Life are but poor cousins of the US version.

Both One Go and Long Life contain cleaning agents, and Long Life in particular will dissolve/attack acrylic paints. I do use One Go for dipping clear parts but prefer not to use either for clear coating.

Both can be found at your local Coles or Woolworhs/Safeway.

I have seen some possible alternatives ("Feast Watson Floorshine" and "Peerless Pro Gemini Floor Sealer") at Bunnings but have not tried them.

Re: Can't find Future!

It's funny this post has come up today. Not 4 hours ago I bought a bottle of Pledge one go after reading swanny's website. I tried this on a scrap model part as a trial. The results from this test were not quite what I was expecting. The 'one go' does not spray like normal paint. It (for me at least) sprayed a bit like water in that it ran very easily and did not cover very well. It looked as though the surface tension would cause the pledge to bead up and not spread out. The only way I could get coverage was to spray it very wet which I feel is not right. I am willing to try it again but I have a feeling I will be going back to my Tamiya clear acrylic.

I really wish the proper Future was available in Australia but it looks like once again we miss out down under.

Re: Can't find Future!

Hi.  This is my first post.  I'm sorry, I can't answer the question on where to find Future floor polish, but I have used an alternate product called Holloway House Quick Shine.

I'm just now getting back into modeling after being idle for several years, but in the past I used Quick Shine on several models and haven't seen any problems - no yellowing after two or three years. I guess I should qualify my remarks by saying that I'm no chemist and have no idea what's in it, but I've been happy with the results.  I used Quick Shine on canopies and also as a base and a protective overcoat for decals ... essentially the same as one would use Future.

The product is somewhat different than Future in that it has the look of non-fat milk (it is not clear like Future).  Also, it is not quite as thick as Future, but I have never tried to use it with an airbrush (just brushed it over paint or dipped a canopy in a 35mm photo cannister filled  with Quick Shine).  There is a slight purplish-blue haze when applied, but it dries crystal clear.

Anyway, you can run a search for Quick Shine, there's a website that talks all about it.  I have Quick Shine Floor Finish ... the one with the green cap.

It would help if we knew where you were located. You might want to look at Swanny's article on Future.

Its not the workbench that makes the model, it is the modeler at the workbench.

Re: Can't find Future!
Here is an update for the Aussies. I tried some more testing with Pledge One Go. I gave the part I was spraying a good clean and upped the pressure. The results were much better, not perfect but better. I think with a bit more practice I'll be confident using One Go in place of Tamiya clear.

Pledge didn't buy the brand name, S.C. Johnson always owned the floor polish line.  For marketing purposes they changed the name to Pledge with a Future shine.
