1 more homemade spray booth to look at
|

I started with a $20, on sale, cabinet from Target that is 36x30x15. The loose shelf was screwed in place to make the top of the plenum. 2 pieces of corner molder were glued inside to hale the filter at 45 degrees. Hole for the blower was cut, blower mounted and the plenum all sealed with silicone. Took a couple of hours and that was only because I was trying to figure out how to mount the blower because of the flange on one side. A ring of particle board was cut to go around the inlet tub, glued on both side and bolted through the shelf into the tube. Solid as a rock. The 2 sides of the filter still have to be blanked off and there will eventually be some lighting, AB hook... stuff like that.

Nice work Marc. That's one of the cleanest, simplest solutions I've seen.

That's the exact blower motor I bought about 5 years ago from Grainger. I still have yet to build my spray booth though. What metal work did you use to attach the outlet port to the flexible hose? This is where I was stuck. Making a box is straight forward but I have yet to devise an connection solution to the hose.

When I got mine online they sold adaptors that is a plate with holes to mount it to the blower housing with a tube. You can see it in pic 5. 1 for the inlet and 1 for the outlet.

Any chance you have the website and part number information for those adaptors?

Thanks for the info and glad you were able to recall the website. At $9.95 that seems better than attempting to fabricate something.

What's keeping the airflow from circumventing the filter? Air like water seeks the path of least resistance.

I was wondering the same thing. Great idea though! Seal up that filter, add the light you mentioned and you have a winner. I really like the extra shelf up top for storage. It'd be really cool if you could leave the doors in place, close them when done spraying and use it as a drying booth also. And the doors could help contain vapors and guide them into the booth while spraying larger items that don't fit inside.

Gerald, HK... You can't just look at the pictures. This is not Playboy![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/icon_smile_wink.gif) My 1st post mentions the filter needed to be blanked off. I just never got around to taking a pic. Both issues are taekn care of. 1 with a couples of pieces of 1/4" balsa and the other with a camera. HK, I left to doors on for that very reason.

Good job Marc. I admittedly skimmed over the text. Looks like a winner and makes me want to ditch my current booth and build another like yours.

The only thing I see that might give you some problems are shadows when you are painting. Have you thought about some sort of lighting? When I built my booth, I bought some undercounter kitchen lights and mounted them on the sides of the booth. Looking at your booth you might be able to use the same type of light and mount them running vertical. Just my two cents worth.

Nice set up. I've been looking to build a booth and this seems the simplest and least expensive. As a bonus I work at Target so it's not a extra trip to the store. Eric...
It's all about keeping it real.
