Remembrance Sunday 8th November.

Gentlemen,

Tomorrow is Remembrance Sunday in the UK and Commonwealth, we give thanks to those who have served our country in all conflicts. We remember the fallen and give thanks to those who have served and who still in the service of our country.

To show our support and respect we wear the British legion poppy. Each one bought raises money for veterans in need. This Sunday our nation will be led by Her Majesty the Queen in London at the Cenotaph and British Forces around the world will also stand shoulder to shoulder in a minute's silence for the fallen.

"When you go home Tell them of us and say For your tomorrow We gave our today... "

Please take a moment to remember your friends from Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and other Commonwealth states.

Thank you.

Regards,
Darren.

Re: Remembrance Sunday 8th November.

You don't have it on the 11th like Canada does?? Confused [%-)]

I'll be at the local cenotaph for the 11AM service on the 11th as it's a statutory holiday in BC.

The UK gets better poppies then we do. Wink [;)]

As you can see from my avatar I take Remembrance very seriously. In fact, I keep a poppy pinned to my car's sun visor all year long.

My father fought for the "Loyal Eddie's" in Sicily and Italy, my mother built Lancasters at AVRO in Milton, Ontario, and my uncle joined the RAF in '39 and flew Hurricanes before being transferred to the RCAF where he ended up flying support missions over my dad and his men in Sicily. My wife's grandfather and father served with the British Army at El Alamein and her mother and grandmother were bombed out of three homes during the Blitz, before her mother was evacuated to Canada on the second to last ship, the last being torpedoed and sunk with all hands. All those people survived the war, but not the passage of time, save her mother. Remembrance Day uses up a lot of tissue 'round my house!

Ours is the 11th as well Bill and it's called, "Veterans Day" here in the U.S.

On another note the 10th is the Birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

I love the US Military very very much.  But I will admit that I also have a soft spot in my heart for the fine military of our cousins from across the pond as well as the Anzac's and Canucks (of which my ancestry comes from).  We had a little speed bump early on in our histories together, but the British have proven themselves to be incredible friends to the US.  And with a miitary tradition going back so much farther than this countries you fellows have quite a number of fine achievments you can look back upon.  I will admit to getting misty eyed whenever I hear that great Churchill "..to so few" speech.  So here is to those great naval, soldier and avation heroes of the great British Empire.  "God save the queen!"

Our day of remembrance is like Christmas, one of those federal holidays that does not move to the nearest Monday. It is always on November 11th. Even at the twilight of my career, when good and bad things happen around me, I always stop to be thankful I am one of the ones still around to give thanks.

Veteran's Day is on the eleventh because it was originally Armistice Day, noting the end of WW I. The Armistice was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Thank you so much for the reminder and touching photos. We are truly grateful for the service and sacrifice of your great warriors throughout the decades and all those who support them back home. One of my favorite journalists is Michael Yon and he has had several in depth articles stating what high regard he has for your soldiers. Here is a link to one of his stories...

I pray for your troops often and grieve their losses.

I often wish my life would have kept me in the Army. For whatever reason(s) it didn't. But I wish all the best and all of my love for those who stay/stayed. Rob is a shining example of a good man, doing great things. I pray for him and all of those like him. God bless you all. You are a better man than just the uniform. My hat is off, and I salute. One vet, to another. You and the ones like you, keep U.S. (us) strong.
My time served was well worth it. For better or worse. May God bless you and your families a hundred + fold.
