Blkhwkmatt Sorry to hear that Matt. I always clear coat with future right after I burnish the foil with steel wool because any finger prints will turn black on bear aluminum, also decals wont stick to the foil very well. Only thing I can think of if the solvent wont work is maybe lacquer thinner but I dont have any idea what that would do to the foil. Sanding would work and if you damage the foil you could just lay another piece over the damaged spot. Thats all I can think of hopefully someone here will have a better idea.

Got a bit more work done on my build today, the booms are glued on, now I have to add the weights so it wont sit on its tail and do the filling and sanding around the wing roots. Actually I wont have to do as much filling as I thought I would. thats a good thing

Matt yes Academy decals suck and are extremly thick and I have not found any setting solution yet that will soften them. I have read somewhere that someone does make a decal removal solution that might pull them up without damaging the foil. Good luck.

 BLKHKMAT, try a bit of masking tape, it'll lift that decal right up. It even works if you've clear coated over the decal, I found that out the hard way! I don't believe it'll cause any problems with your foil.

 I'm back to the F-86d, completely O-O-B, except for a bulkhead in front of the pit to hide the weights. She'll be ready for paint and some pics tomorrow!!!

Blkhwkmatt Whew !!! Glad to see a happy ending with you little set back. I was to be honest worried that the lacquer thinner would do bad things to the foil adhesive, so I tried it here and worked out fine didnt hurt anything.

Sherman1111 Lookin good there Matt. Glad you were able to save your slight miss hap, I would have been cussin for a week over that I tell ya. That thing is a monster and will look awesome in NMF.

Havent had a chance to do any work on the 38 today, I hope to add lead to the nose and do some filling tonight.

SC -- Ahhhhhh, now I understand!

It's not an Academy kit. It's a Hobbycraft kit reboxed in Korea. Every inexplicable fubar you describe is typical of Hobbycraft, their kits seem to be designed by a committee, one that can't agree on any details. I closed the box on their F4U-1D when I encountered this, "square-peg, round-hole syndrome" I called it, and I mean that absolutely literally. Is there any other company out there that would offer a peg on one part and no hole for it to go into on the other? Your work on this animal proves a good model can be built from their bits, but you must be prepared to sweat blood, and only a subject you can't find elsewhere, like this one, really justifies it.

Both the F-86 and the  Mig are looking good there Matt. Do'nt be to hard on yourself about the foil. Foiling a plan is not easy to do and every tiny imperfection shows through. My Ha-1112 is not perfect either but it still looks pretty cool to me. It was my first attempt so I am allowing myself some room for imperfection. We are always the most critical of our own work. You doing a great job so far. Every time I see your posts I want to run out and grab a F-86 and a Mig 15!

Well I finished up the Ha-1112 tonight. A very disapointing kit. Almost every part of the kit needed major work to make it look decent. This was my very first atempt at NMF and I learned alot. The next time I am going to see if there is some way to seal the finish once it is polished to keep its shine better. There are several spots that are discolored. I knew my first one would not be perfect but I didenjoy it. I think I am going to replace the canopy as the kit one is a real piece of crap and totally inaccurate. A great experience overall now I just have to pick a second subject after I finish my Fokker D VII. Here are some pics.
