Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

All these great builds ! You guys are makin me ashamed mine is taking so long. Sorry I havent been around in a few days, was a bit under the weather but I am back now

Fermis Whats your secret ?? How do you build so fast and so well. That is a very convincing finish.

LancairIV Nice foil work there, do you give lessons ?

Sherman1111 Another build I cant wait to see finished, so many unusual birds being built in this group. Hey ya gotta build the X/YB-35 now that you have teased us with it. Those are some nice boxes you have on your bench too !

Fermis -- the Dog Sabre is seriously beautiful work! I have the same kit in my stash and have always been hesitant about attempting the finish, bit I am now very confident that I can handle it. The used, subtly weathered effect looks so realistic it's breathtaking!

Sherman -- the Bounder is one very impressive piece of work. I am really loving these vintage Russian jobs! Oh, and BUILD THE WING!

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

Much appreciated gentlemen. V-man, I have no secret, this kit just fell together, no issues at all. O.K. I've got 1 secret, my crappy camera hides all the flaws!!

Looking forward to seeing the end results Lancair & Sherman. Looking real good so far, very impressive!!!

Sherman1111 Your Bounder is looking like it is coming along very well. Gotta tell you though, that M-50 Bounder just reeks of speed, looks like a missile with wings attached. Maybe thats what the M really means Big Smile [:D].

Wishing a safe and happy 4th to all, especially our service members, both past and present.

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

The Soviets only made 2 of the M-50s, with a top speed of 1200 mph and a payload of 66000 lbs. There was one small bombbay centerline on the aircraft with no other armment for defence.

As with all Soviet the letters in front of the numbers is the manfacuture, in this case Myasishchev design bureau. There isnt much info on this plane out there, but it must of been like flying a rocket, small wings and big engines.

The crew could be loaded by way of lowering the ejection seats on rails under the nose, which was different. And they could eject up or down. The undercarriag is simaler to a b-52, but the front set of wheels could be raised on takeoff to change the angles of the wings.

When I look for a build I like to do the unusaual, and the Soviets sure had a lot of different birds too choose from. This is an Amodel kit and one of the better fitting of parts than normal. With plastic, resin, and fiberglass parts. I am enjoying this build, where as haveing problems with the TU-128, she had to go back again for more putty work. thats why I havent finshed her yet. but I am close.

please excuse my bad spelling......

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

Back to it, for round 2! This looks like the first summer in many years, that I'm building anything. I LIKE IT!!!

This next one will be Hasegawas 1/48 F-104C, in US Airforce markings, pretty much O-O-B again, except for the pit; true details(?)seat and color PE from Eduard. I think this one will be my most challenging finish yet, 8 different colors to go on the outside! Again I'll be using Metallizer paints, in 4 shades. Nose will be grey with black anti-glare, white wing tops, and a red tail. Hopefully it'll turn out as good as I see it in my head!!!

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

Man you guys are knocking out builds fasted than I can read the posts. I went looking through the stash and I realised out of a stash of 200 airplane kits I really do'nt have a whole lot of suitable subjects for this GB. The only thing I found was the old Revell P-47 Bubble top. A kit that would definetly need alot of seemwork whick of coarse means alot of possiblilties for missed seams and an ugly finish. I have a couple of other kits that are partial NMF. I have to think about it. I am starting The Regia Aeronautica GB part II but I always like to have two going atthe same time to keep me busy when I do get motivated at the bench. I definetly want to do at least one more for this GB.

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

Soulcrusher Would love to see another build from you and hope you will do another. Leme tell ya though a bad P-47 is the testors kit, it was my first foil build an well all I can say is I truely came up with some new Censored [censored] phrases. Oh and yeah toothpicks can stick in the wall Big Smile [:D]

Lancair SOOOOWWWEEEEETTTT ! I bet it looks even better in person. So hurry it up with that TLC you are talkin about wanna see it. How many rolls of Reynolds wrap did that take ?

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

 Real nice Rob!!!

I think if I tried foil, I'd end up puttin it back in the box, and in the back of the stash!

You'll have to bring that to the Kalamazoo contest(Oct.10), along with some others!!!

I was hoping to get something done on the 104 today, but the stars just didn't line up. I did go on it ALL day yesterday. Got the pit done, fuse. closed up, wings and tanks. Once sanded and canopied, she'll be ready for some paint. BUT , will have no time at all until the weekend.

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

Be careful what you wish for!!!

Here's another example of my post "the powers that be, do have a sense of humor" in the "odds n ends".

I was kinda hoping that band practice would be cancelled tonight, so I could build. Well, last night, my other guitar player wacked a deer, totaled his truck, and has to go truck shopping tonight. (all are O.K.....cept for the deer!) Ah, the price some have to pay, so that I can build my little airplanes.

So, I get in another session, I'll get a pic or up for ya. Not that my work, so far, justifies a pic, but just proof that I'm not taking pics of already built planes !

  Here ya go SHERMAN

Re: Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build

Not a lot of progress tonight, the wife decided to take advantage of my free night. I did however manage to get all the paint on, except for the metal(that'll have to wait for the weekend). So heree's a pic.

Hopefully I'll have more to share over the weekend.
