Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

Still at my conference in Jacksonville.  On a break and was happy to find the the internet connection was finally up and running.  So needless to say... no progress.  But I see everyone else is doing just fine work.  Found 2 LHSs within 15 mins of the hotel... I am going to check them out tomorrow.

Nice job Barry.  and Congrats on the first completion in the build.  When I get back i will update the webiste.

Thanks, Charlie.

Barry, great job on the P-39.  I like the weathering myself.

Nice weathering there. Thumbs Up [tup] Looks like the plane has been at the Front for a bit of action.  Not sure, but didn't Russia have a Red Star on the top of each wing?  I realize that you may have copied a plane that didn't, but just asking.

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

thanks, I thought it was odd that there were no stars on the upper wings but what little documentation I could find on this particular plane showed no stars.

I think it looks good. You could always add stars latter if you want them. I built a yak 3 a while back and the references showed stars on the sides and the bottom of the wings. Of Coarse this is not a yak 3 so.........oh never mind.

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

It is possible that there weren't stars on top.  The last '39 I did was an a/c we sent to England, and sice they were not happy with the performance, did nto like them so they were pushed on the the Russians... who used it the right way... and extrememly well.  sorry... i am off the point  (LOL  mucker knows why)  But anyway.... the roundels were painted over but no stars added.

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

Fantastic working going on here! I'm gonna squirt some paint on another project tomorrow and while it dries I think I'll get going with this build. My unplanned trip into Mustang obsessionville cost me much time and many, many moons spent on things other than this group build. I'm itchin to get at it!

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

A bit more work done. Canopy is on, although the fit wasn't too hot, not sure what happened. It looks good on the left side, but the right....not as good. Ended up using a bit of filler there. Fuselage and wings should go together soon, although test fitting has revealed that there will be some filling at the wing/fuselage joint.

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

OK, my first build is pretty much done. I just have to weather it, and it'll be finished. I've gotten a little progress on the P-400, i.e. the cockpit is almost done, and some of the minor parts are painted. I'll try to get some pics up within the week.

Yes you forgot to mention this to the West Coast Office... Or, did you put that in the company Memo last week? Seems my cat ate it for lunch before I got the opprotunity to read itWhistling [:-^]

I would like to say that we are glad to see Marc has returned safely from the conference & Thad has graced us with at least 1 photo (better than none I s'pose) showing he is making an attempt at progressApprove [^]

Now Dave... Git 'Er Done!!!Mischief [:-,]

West Coast Office will be closed until Monday.... Need to bomb the place...  Seems the East Coast sent in some critters attached to the last memoSigh [sigh]

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

Dave, may I suggest some gimmicks to jump start the newsletter subscriptions again? For example 1/32 scale sandpaper or low tack superglue? Something to let them know we're all about integrity. Heck, maybe you can even promote the Bluegrass Office by letting me handle the marketing form now on.

Nerf sprue cutters? Paint brush shakers?...something's going to catch on.

Marc, that is a great looking build! I really like the paint work on it. I may have to remember that scheme for a future build up.

I filled in the wing/fuselage joint with some magic sculpt yesterday. That's mainly to fill the large void. It'll probably need some Red Bondo Putty filler to smooth everything out.
