Erik, the eagle is the so-called "Bundesadler" or Federal Eagle, aka as the federal Chicken and is the official coat of arms of the Federal republic of Germany and can be found on all official flags flown at official buildings. here is a link if you would like to know more about it.

Manstein's Revenge is similar to Montezuma's revenge, only it's caused by under cooked schnitzel and beer brewed not according to the Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law of 1516). Whistling [:-^]

Re: What is a "Manstein's revenge"??????

Amazing how often this thread shows up-this is the third time I've contributed an answer on this site alone! LOL!

Mine is my longtime girlfriend's "pet name' for me.

She has two big 90-lb dogs, Toby (left) and Sebastian, (right);

They're brothers.

One day, after she had a particularly rotten day dealing with customers at the restuarant where she is head hostess, she came home to find tails wagging, tongues flappin', and got the normal amount of affection and excitement to see her--which caused her to remark "even on the worst of days, nobody loves you like your doogs!"

So,.....natch, I became a "doog' as well! Blush [:I] (She always greets me "HEY DOOG!" LOL! )

My screenname is my first and last name initals, mg, then comes my name Michael in Swedish, mikael. Hence you get mg.mikael. No, I'm not Swedish, but because everyone loves themWhistling [:-^]....especially the women. That's why I chose to go with that language for my name.

As for my avatar, you wouldn't believe how many people ask me if she comes in full scale. Re: What is a "Manstein's revenge"??????

I finally wised up and kept the answer to this question on a document so can do a quick paste with a little editing for the dates...Big Smile [:D]

My favorite comic book in the 60's was Enemy Ace, along with Sergeant Rock and The Haunted Tank, etc... In 1998, I started flying a WW1 air combat sim called Red Baron II, then later Red Baron 3D, on-line and most of the other sim-pilots took historical WW1 pilot names, or the usual crop of the nonsensensical or humorus ( I was partial to Lt Pat McGroyne, my "Allied" persona)  but there were several of us who went with fictional ones. Hans Von Hammer, "The Hammer Of Hell" was my first pick as a German pilot-name, and I've carried it to other forums as well..

Even the CAF has hung "Hammer" on me as a call-sign (for a different reason though.  My first name is Mike and the CO at the time was a fan of Mike Hammer detective stories and hung that on me), so it got put on my name patch as well.  I didn't let on to the fact that I liked it, since one of the "Call-sign Rules" states, "If you like it, you can't have it"...

My avatar changes periodically, just to keep folks guessing... Currently, it's a picture of me back about a hunnert' years ago, when I was a young Army Staff Sergeant and the Section Chief on an M109A3 SP Howitzer...  I prefer pics of myself as avatars, mainly because I think it helps folks communicate better in forums if they get a face and a name...  Plus, I just love a good "Hero Shot"...Wink [;)]

Re: What is a "Manstein's revenge"??????

I'm a Lord of the Rings fanatic, read the Trilogy+Hobbit 3 times over 4 years and the Silmarillion twice, so I picked my favorite sword from the books and movies.   Oddly enough, I own a couple official reproductions of the swords, but not Glamdring, go figure.  I kick myself now when I see the prices on Ebay, double what they were 4 years ago....

Avatar is one of my TV heroes, Dr. Greg House, MD.  He's holding the magic eyeball which was the immunity trophy when he was picking his new team from a bunch of fellowship doctors, the one he awarded the eye to got to run their test on a patient.  Think Survivor, complete with the extinguished torches. (bunson burners in a lab)  One of the best episodes of the series, IMHO...

Mine's very simple. I like NASCAR, have ever since I was a little guy, so it's a play on words between "rugrat" and my favorite driver (now retired), Ricky Rudd.

Some years ago,  I had a landlord whom I discovered was a Hauptman in the Panzer Korps in WWII.  I affectionately referred to him as 'Panzer Willi'.  This is kind of an homage to Willi.  I just stuck my name (Richard) in after the 'panzer' part.

Mine's pretty simple.  I'm a Clive Cussler fan --well, WAS,-- but I haven't read any of his stuff in a while, and I hear it's gotten mediocre anyway.

Re: What is a "Manstein's revenge"??????

A decade ago my snowboarding buddies decided to nickname me "bufflehead"   Not knowing what it meant I looked it up:

(n.) a small North American duck (Bucephala albeola), black on top and white underneath

(n.) One who has a large head; a heavy, stupid fellow.

Hmmmm...which one would you have picked?  Laugh [(-D]

Wirraway 'cause I'm from down under, and it is recognisable as one of the few Australian built aircraft.  The Devo Power Dome 'cause I'm still stuck in the 80's and they're one of my favorite bands.

I saw Devo on a televised concert the other day, and I realized just how old I'm getting!

(talking in a low whisper) For myself, I've always loved the F-105 Thunderchief. Hence, one of the nicknames is Leadsled. I know it may be sacrilegious to announce that in this forum but I have turned 45% to the dark side (45% remains in aircraft & 10% in autos)

Re: What is a "Manstein's revenge"??????

OK.....here is the derivation again...

redleg is what an artilleryman is called. 12 was part of my "in open" callsign. Rather than use 6 for commander, in the open we used a little bit more complicated system...1 for commander, 2 for second unit or Bravo battery...and thus redleg12....the best time of all my years in the military

Re: What is a "Manstein's revenge"??????

Im not really sure how mine came to mind.

I was reading a story about the red army pushing back the Grerman army at the end of WW2 and it kinda just popped in to my head.

"They rolled in to the Germans like a giant Russian fist".

I am a big fan of the T-34 and many things russian.

It just sounded cool to me.

As for my Avitar, well I just thought Godzilla chewing on a model boat was just to good to pass up.

Re: What is a "Manstein's revenge"??????

haha oh... well... mine's kind of interesting I guess. I was in 8th grade trying to make a screen-name on AOL and every name combination I tried was taken... I must have tried a good dozen or so combinations and nothing came back as available.

So I got a little POed and, well- I guess I took the anger and just ran with it... so came psstoff995- added in the two words- hit random generate and out that popped with a numer that was easy enough to remeber...

I guess it's a little like the drunk tattoo that you regret years later but at the same time you kind of laugh at in and realise that was where you were back in the day haha

As for my avatar... it hasn't... really changed. It's the first 1/35 scale figure figure I ever really painted up as a decient, serious build. Everything prior had been plastic kits with mold reliese marks and full of flash, heavy on the testors glue and no gap filling or anything all under a mediocre coat of thick paint. So when I had photographed it the first time around, it was taken with 35mm film and under fluorescent lighting, came out pretty yellow even after my best photoshop. This new avatar is the same figure, same pose, same background and lighting, just with a much nicer digital camera that I had a much better handle of- no photoshop this time around!
