Re: 1:72 Revell P47D-30 "Balls Out"

Kermit Man I tell ya if it wasnt for bad luck you wouldnt have had any luck at all. Didnt know about the paint cloth thing what a bummer sheesh. I think you paint job came out pretty well all things considered. From the pictures it looks like the wings have an aged look to them you know how alunimum will turn a greyish white color that texture gives it that look. Glad you were able to hang in there and get the 47 close to finished. Looking forward to those pictures. What do you think you will be building next ?

Re: 1:72 Revell P47D-30 "Balls Out"

My choice of a new build caused me some headaches as i have beautiful kits in my stash. Also i kind of fell in love with bare metal finishesBig Smile [:D]Cool [8D]

In that respect i was considering a P51, a P38 or even a B17...

Yesterday however, i stumbled across another tiny, ridiculously cheap 1:72 kit by revell: The Mig 3. I couldn't help but fall in love with it and immediately i made two decisions: I am doing that one with the revell aqua colors entirely (lightning fast drying times and very nice to apply and handle), and i am going to try to make it a "weekend build" (72 hours or as close to it as i can).

Probably going to start it (and my stopwatch) somewhere this weekend. Still deciding on the colour scheme however but i will ofcourse share that in a new build log later onWink [;)]

Thanks for the interest Randy

Re: 1:72 Revell P47D-30 "Balls Out"

Those MiG-3 s are really nice looking planes love the lines of the airframe, I saw one here on the forum and had to go and get one to build. I have an ICM MiG-3 in 1/48, the kit looks pretty good too. Would love to have you in the NMF Group Build, lots of good ideas there and a bunch of fun too. There are also a number of differant methods to achieve a good metal finish being used. Frankly I have learned alot, so check it out and jump in if you like. heres the link.

Looking forward to seeing your MiG-3

That would be the P38L/M "Putt Putt Maru" in 1:72 by revell. Might decide on some slight camo changes however but not anything drastic. For some reason (i do have gorgeous 1:48 kits here) i always seem to grab a 1:72 kit lately as i find the tiny detailing a lot of fun to doBig Smile [:D]

Paint job looks good from the pictures. Not every model has to be perfect. I was working on my first ac in a long while when i realized I completely misaligned the wing crosses... the rust shows lol. But whatever, just finish it put it on the shelf and move on to the next one.

I really like the revell kits, and you're doing a good job. Though, if i may suggest, i would spend more time removing the fuselage seam on your next model. It really shows especially in nmf or a gloss finish.

Tankmaster,

Ofcourse you are very right. The seam didn't look too drastic at the time i put it together and i thought a layer of paint would cover it up, but ofcourse (or i know now) that it will only exaggerate the seam(s).

My next kit however (the 1:72 mig3) is almost more putty than plastic...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Ah well, you learn as you go... Im having great fun at my "new" hobby thoughSmile [:)]

Re: 1:72 Revell P47D-30 "Balls Out" (FINISHED)

Hello there!

As i have promised i wanted to show you the pictures of my little 1:72 Jug after the decalling and final coat of varnish.

This is the first aircraft kit i have built since i was a tiny kid (no painting, just gluing etc. etc... weve all been kids...) and for a first timer i think i could have done far worseCool [8D]. As i like the shiny new effect i have decided to not apply any weathering on the outside although i was very tempted to put a wash on the already very nice panellines to make them even stand out more...

Take a look for yourselves:

And did some slight photoshopping for the next oneSmile [:)]... a small "artist impression if you will":

Scratch one more for the shelf i would sayWink [;)]

Comments, critics and feedback are very welcome as i am still learning everyday and try to apply lessons learned to every new kit.

A few lessons for this one:

  • Always use putty even if the seams dont look too drastic
  • Always use a primer before painting/ airbrushing the camouflage
  • Try to add little, brittle things like pitot tubes and antennae last, after painting. They are very eager to break offBlush [:I]
  • Don't forget to have funMake a Toast [#toast]

My next kit, as i have already announced will be a Revell 1:72 P-38L for the NMF group build.

Looks good there kermit!  Especially the "period" style photo, could be mistaken for the real deal with the right background. Thumbs Up [tup]

Re: 1:72 Revell P47D-30 "Balls Out" (FINISHED)

Thanks for the comments peeps!

I know it's far from perfect but i can at least say i haven't had as much fun in modeling in ages. It was new, it was small and it caused some problems to solve. What more does a modeler want to have heaps of fun?Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

About the last pic: I have found an online website especially for modelers on how to enhance their pictures and use photoshop to make them look as if they are flying or at a certain place. Really interesting and if i can find the time and motivation i will have a go at having this juggie fly into a sunset in a sepia pic. Tongue [:P]

Dirkpitt,

Here's the link: http://photoguide.tiono.com/

It is really worth taking a look. There's heap of useful stuff onthere about settings on your camera, lighting, backgrounds etc. etc. I have it bookmarked myself.

She came really great, Kermit, Especially after all the trials and tribulations. Also, considering its your first build since a kid. Very nice indeed and thanks for the link to the photoguide site. Im sure that will prove really helpfull.
