I might be interested in this one. I'd like to do a P-47M in the black/dark-blue over natural metal scheme from the 56th FG. I've got decals for the model already, just no model to stick them on. I'll let you know closer to the time if I'm in or not.

Bought a Revell 1/72 P-47 M today,

I'd read good things about the kit on the net, and the LHS had 2 models, both bubbletops (one is a rebox, but I'm not sure which). I had been thinking about buying one for a while, but someone bought one of the 2 kits, so I figured I needed to buy the last one before someone else did.

The kit looks excellent! It's molded in a funky white/grey. The instrument detail is the best I've ever seen, and the cockpit looks very busy. It has engraved panel lines and looks good all the way around. Very little flash. For $9, it's neck and neck with the Academy kit (perhaps a hair better? We'll see when I start fitting peices together).

Now the real question is, do I want to build it before the GB, or save it for during and build 2 T-bolts?

Here´s the Hasegawa kit. I´ve learned that the mold is from the early 80:s. In some aspects, especially the outside it looks like a decent kit. The panel lines are nicelly recessed and the details looks OK. It has received fine revievs that I´ve read.

But the cocpit is a joke, and so are the wheel bays (no side walls). I intent to replace them with two Aires resin sets. They are fairly inexpensive (about 80kr = U.S. $10 each) The sets are recomendet for the Academy, but from what I´ve heard it´s not to be to much trouble fitting them.

So - with an overall ok kit and with those resin sets, I think it got the potential to turn out ok.

I'm a greenhorn to this fabulous site and forum. Couldn't help but notice this GB and i simply have to throw my lot in here if that's OK. The best part is it only starts next year giving me time to finish up a bunch of other GB's on other sites. I will do a 1/48th Hasagawa with a full Aires detail set (The Mexican Jug box). But i will go through my decal stash to decide on which bird. tho9900 as a matter of interest I will post a pic of my 1/48th Mexican bird as soon as i figure out how to attach an image to a post.

tho9900: I think you hit the nail on the head. I've built a few Hasegawa kits, and it seems the exterior detail is quite nice, while the interior is a little lacking.

I started work on the Revell P-47M. I'm using it as "practice" for the GB I suppose. For $8, it is an excellent kit. I'm thinking about getting the Heller 1/72 P-47N for the GB, just to do something different. Anyone built that kit?

I've already built the Tamiya razorback and bubbletop,(great kits BTW), However, I picked up a 1/48 Hase. kit at our club auction for $8.00. I've already ordered a resin pit and wheel bay. Also have lots of spare jug decals, bow season will be over.....Jan. 1.....cool....I'm in.

I was just seeking around this site for specific Jug information but upon seeing this
47 GB got interested.

I'm currently working on modeling all of the known 368th FG 395th FS aircraft between 1943 and 1944 in 1/48th scale

Currently I'm working on one of my Grandfathers aircraft "Wild Bette" in which he flew 120 missions and went through some dramatic changes throughout it's airworthy career. Here the bird is at strip A-3 June 1944 in Cardonville France.

I'm working on all three known versions of this aircraft.

I'd be interested in building another 395th ship for this build, That being of a close family friend and fellow jug driver Cliff Gamble, His "Eloise 2" pictured below. this bird has always intrigued me and this should give me an excuse to buy yet another Tamyia P-47 Razorback :)

Thank you and yes it is a bit ambitious and maybe foolhardy to take on such a project. I have though been a bit determined as I keep seeing many of the surviving drivers of these Jugs dying and there memorys and aircraft forgotten. It is my goal to somehow keep the memory of them alive.

However, in order to not break myself I'm focusing only on those aircraft I can find specific details on from May 1944 to Sept 1944, as well as a few representive craft from 1943 when the 395 FS was based in the US.

As of now there are about 20 ships with enough information to model, of those about Five I have detail enough to actually build three to four different versions of the same aircraft.

My focus is on the original flights of the 395th FS in Europe as not only was one my Grandfather, I have also had the privilage of hearing about and meeting some of the others during this time period.
