I like it, the interior looks great. What did you use for the seat cushion?

I used Aeromaster Acrylic Interior Green (they sell two different colors, mine is Stock# 6120, can get it from Squadron)...from what I've read on IPMS Stockholm site about US Cockpit interior colors, Airacobras where painted in Interior Green or Bronze Green. My P-39D is from late 43, only a couple months after Interior Green was implemented, so i deducted that mine would have been an earlier model that would be painted in Bronze Green that was in used since the mid 1930s..

It came with the Blackbox update, I always thought that pilots used their chutes as seat cushions, but it looks nice anyways...

Sprayed the Alclad tonight.  Masked off a few panels for a little variation. Glued the LG just after the photo was taken.  Decals soon.. YIPPIE!

Marc:

Help jog my memory...which scheme are you going with? NMF? If so, that'll be a beauty judging from the pics. Looks like she's put together well.

I sprayed the underside Neutral grey tonight...no pics, though. After drying over night, I should be able to spray the topside green tomorrow, and with any luck I'll have the red tail and nose section a nice shade of red over the weekend. One step at a time...

OOOHHHH!! Shinny !!  I think I might like this one better than the last P 39 you did. And its the one that made me want to build one. No presure or anything. You just have to exceed the build and finish quality of the last one now that I have gone out on a limb and deemed it a better build than the last one. Hope this helps.Whistling [:-^]

Man! both of those builds are lookin' beautiful! I can't wait to see more pics! Speaking of which, I was planning on posting mine, but they're still on the camera, which isn't at my house at the moment. I'll try to get them up by theend of the week. I haven't gotten much done on the P-400 because I'm too into my guitar. I'm not sure what happened, but suddenly I just can't put it down. Been learning a few of Metallica's greatsTongue [:P] Tongue [:P] (enter sandman, fade to black, the unforgiven, etc.), and a few Sum 41 and Blink-182 tunes too. I did get enough time theother night to finish assembling the cockpit, and I might get the fuselage together tonight ifI havethe time.

Thanks guys...

Charles, yup she will be as nekkid as a bluejay.

Oh thanks Dave.... no... no pressure at all

Jaypack... careful learning Metallica tunes.  Every time someone gives you something for nothing you may start to scream.. "COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT... ALL THE MONEY I AHVE JUST ISN'T ENOUGH!"

Whooaaa! Wait one minute there, sir....I've watched plenty a baseball game and Toronto is always one of the best uniforemd teams in the Majors....I may be dumb...but I'm slow!

Which markings are going on that shiny Airacobra?

Yeah... I have always liked Toronto's uniform.

 These are the markings...

The bule topside and gray belly is the artist trying to vary the NMF in the drawing.  Too bad... that would have been a cool looking scheme.

Very unique. Are those Cutting Edge decals?

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

Well took a step back today...so I could move forward with new model

Well I got fed up with the way the canopy was fitting (not to mention I was getting stress cracks in it) and decided to exact some revenge on the model this afternoon...

Here is it is with the canopy not quite fitting right:

Here is surgury started:

Aftermath...I just need to clean up the cockpit sides and repaint and reinstall in the new kit.

To tell you the truth it went better then I expected, and I'll pay more attention to the fit issues with the Blackbox cockpit. Thankfully the LHS is having a sale Sunday, and they should have the kit in stock ;)

OUCH!  That really bites. You seem to be in good spirits though.

And I do feel yoru pain.  Trying, and failing miserably, to get Aries resin wheels wells into a P-51 build a while back.  All the hacking, filing, scraping, snading and chopping caused me to have to get a new kit just for the upper wings.

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build
There is a little pain in P-63 land, too.  Maybe not so major as I have a P-39 door for a replacement.  Somehow when it came time to put all the last bits on, the right door has come up missing.  Somewhere, it rests, all painted, window installed, decalled, but where I do not know.  (Gnashing of teeth....)

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

Ouch! That looks like the same fit problem I had with my Eduard canopy. I ended up sanding down the bulkhead (?) right behind the seat to get a better fit with the canopy. Still had some filling to do. It looks fine on the right side, not so good on the left!

No progress this week.....

Re: P-39 Airacobra Group Build

The MPM P-63A is declared done.  Some will notice the cannon muzzle is absent from the spinner, forgot all about it until I got ready to post the pictures.  The final hurdle, besides forcing the replacement door through paint (6 hours from sprue to model, like a TV dinner is 6 minutes from freezer to fork), was getting a good flat finish after two coats of Future.  Testors flat just wouldn't do it, so I went to the FSM Forum on finishing and read up on Future mixed with Tamiya Flat Base, and tried that.  Anybody need any Testor's flat coat?  I really am happy with how the Future/Tamiya Base combination worked.  Whoopee!

Boy am I glad this thing is ready for the display case.  It was done OOB except for the seat, propeller, and right hand door, which are surplus from a Pro-Modeler P-39 kit which I have a KMC interior and doors for.  Oh, and the Russian stars are from the spares box because the MPM decals tore apart even after a coat of decal film.

I am ready for a shake and baker.  The picture are as good as I can do until it quits raining here in Northern California.
