Kykeon, you've got the right idea...the MG was one of the items, even though you see only the MP-40's in most kits, being stranded in the midst of enemy infantry was one of the greatest fears of German SPG crews. MG-34's, and later MG-42's, were standard issue to all Wespe and Hummel crews, and many carried grenades as well. The Panzerfaust...nope. It's be kind of hard to use a panzerfaust from inside an SPG, don't ya think? The other item in question was standard issue and was produced from the beginning to the end of the war. Anywhere from one to five of this item was carried by every crew (two was what regulations specified) and they usually were stowed in a special location ready for instant use. If somebody else gets this one, I'll have to find a tiebreaker question

As clarification, I do mean on the vehicle, and I do mean what would have been carried in practice and not necessarily in regulations. Nobody was afraid of gas and many German crew threw out the gas masks and used the compartments in the floor for storing MG ammo. MP40s were not very popular because they couldn't be fit into their mounts with a magazine fitted, and there was no specified place to store mags. There was a mount, on the right wall on both the Hummel and Wespe for an MG, and although no kit has provided it, it was the favorite weapon of most SPG crews. Keep guessing...

Smoke grenades? No, I doubt anyone would have wanted to toast their marshmallows inside their vehicles with the back-blast from a panzerfaust, but many softskins carried them. I have a photo of a schwimmwagen literally festooned with grenades and panzerfausts hanging off it. The SWS Panzerwerfer had built-in racks to hold two Panzerschrecks. Heck, I would have packed one in my vehicle if I was there! ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/icon_smile_wink.gif)

You're all thinking too fancy. We're talking really standard equipment. Something a light vehicle definitely doesn't carry.

Well, no one seems to be getting it, so I'll give the answer - AP shells. All German SPG's were required to carry at least two anti-tank rounds in their vehicle at all times, in case of an encounter with enemy armor. This was one regulation that most crews stuck to very faithfully, for obvious reasons. There are at least three confirmed tank kills by German SPG's, 2 T-34s and a T-70. There were probably many other instances that were not documented. Kykeon got the first part right, so he's up.

...LOL...the T-70 would have been easily waxed with a standard HE round---probably the T-34's as well, considering the calibre of the gun involved...I am sure there are many more "kills" from spg's than 3, especially from indirect fire...

What vehicle are these turret remains from; Hint; I know there isn't much to look at here, but only consider rare German vehicles.

Can't think of anything very obscure to ask at the moment.... Who manufactured the Jagdtiger?
