Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)
"Where is everybody" he asks...well, the Bailey's are at Ocean Isle Beach, NC for our annual vacation...meaning no plastic time.  However, the interior is together & painted (for the most part) on the P-40 and I hope to get it glued together & the fuselage together before the weekend ends....we'll be getting home late Friday night.  Hopefully I'll be close to complete by 7/1.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

I'm at work...lucky if I even get to READ the stuff in "My Forums" much less REPLY to anything. Business got busy a bit early this year.

Been plugging away on the Sherman, still on the bench - hoping I can make the July 1st end date. Still optimistic, although most of this weekend is already taken with a crazy attempt at a 200 mile ride on my bike (yes, in one day). Ellsworth Maine to Van Buren Maine. Look it up on Google Earth or something. Wink [;)]

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

I'm back to building now I have'nt had any time for modeling in the last month because of school but I finished my last exam for grade 9 yesterday!!!! YAAAAY!!! so now I can get back to building.

Most of the limited building time I've had recently has been spent on my build for this GB but I haven't made much progress.

The hulls haven't been atached together yet I just did that for the photo.

dupes- Dang, 200 miles in one sitting, I gotta give you respect for that.Thumbs Up [tup] The most I've done at one time on my bike was 15 miles and I thought that was tiring.

As for the deadline of the GB, don't worry about it. It's more of a thing to pressure modelers to finish their builds, but if you still finish your build in a resonable time after the end-date, I'll still include you in the official list of finished builds.

stick man- Congrats on the end of your freshman year!Cool [8D] You're Achilles looks like its comin' along nicely. Same goes for you too, stick man, if you still finish your build in a resonable time after the end-date, I'll still include you in the official list of finished builds. So don't feel rushed to build it in a specific time.

I probably won't make the 1st either.  Will try to get it done ASAP.

It should be a fun ride. Wink [;)] Looks like it's going to be a solo attempt most likely, so if I have to bail around 130-150 I doubt I would be too disappointed.

Will definitely get this guy finished up in a "reasonable" amount of time. Still hoping I can get it on the shelf by the end of the month!

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

Here's my next update.....haven't had that much time on the bench lately, so not alot of work done. I also unfortunatley, won't be home the next two days so I won't get any bench time till Saturday. Along with no computer access till Friday night at the earliest(so I'll be absent from the forums.Boohoo [BH])

Anyways here's the work, all the accesories are comin' along. Base coats and some dry-brushing done. The two helmets are from a Revell kit, along with one of the guns, a PPSh-41.

The SMG "grease gun" is the only kit supplied gun I'm using. The .30 cal and .50 cal are from Tamiya's US Infantry Weapons Set. These Tamiya molds are pretty old too, but their a hundred times better then the Zvezda ones. The .50 cal mount was scavenged from the kit supplied .50 cal. (It's mount is pre-attached to the Zvezda gun, but a little bit of snipping can take it off.)

The kit supplied ammo cans lack detail, so I decided to use those just as stowage in the cabin. I replaced them with a .30 cal ammo box and .50 cal ammo box from Tamiya's US Infantry Weapons Set. The .50 cal ammo tray had to be replaced though,  since the kit supplied ammo tray is too small for a correct .50 cal ammo box, so I had too scratch the tray for the new ammo box I was using. The .30 cal ammo box fit the kit supplied tray without a hitch.

Yes the ammo boxes are open, but I'll be putting an ammo belt in their that feeds to the gun.

Thanks for looking.Smile [:)]

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

Mg-nice work on all the accessories-you have more accessories than I think are in my entire kit!  Your attention to detail is going to pay off.

Got back from vacation yesterday evening-spent today doing things around the house.  However, I did manage to transfer some pics of work done before we left town.  Here's the Before:

Actually, the floor section had some spruce strips & a couple of little "spruce circles" added that appeard on the resin floor section that I used as a model.

After adding the resin side panels and some painting:

I've still got some detail painting, a wash and some dry brushing to do tomorrow.  Also, the fit of the seat is going to be challenging.  The kit seat is a major disappointment, so I'll attempt to get the resin seat in at the right height.  Tomorrow is a busy day-church, lunch, send out some resumes and then some modeling.  I hope to have the interior complete and the fuselage buttoned up & primed by mid week, depending on how things go.  At this pace, the 7/1 date is a "maybe" but it should be done shortly afterwards....

Stick Man, the Achilles is looking good. How is the fit of the 1/48 AFV Club kit?

mgmikael, Very nice work. Always a pleasure to see updates on the M3. The full ammo cans will be a really cool addition with the Tamiya .30 and .50 cals. Looking forward to seeing that honking big .50 setting with a full can of ammo.

bobbaily, the P40 pit is looking great. I like the detail painting. really birngs out the detail of the wiring and various levers and such. Looking great.

Great looking builds everyone, looking forward to seeing updates from all.

Those resin side panels look freakin' fantastic, bobbaily!! The detail is simply superb thanks to your painting.Thumbs Up [tup] Don't rush your-self to finish it by 7/1, if you finish it in a reasonable time afterwards it will still count as an official finished build.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

Mobious & Mg-thanks for the kind words.  Resin adds sooo much to an interior.  Unfortunatly, in a lot of cases, that detail is lost after the fuselage is buttoned up and the canopy is added.  I will attempt to use the "open canopy" option.

Well, the fuselage is together and the wings are on.  Plastic on this RM kit is very soft and the fit is, ....,well, I'll be getting plenty of practice on my gap filling....Hopefully I can fill the gaps without doing too much damage.  I've very thankful for superglue & accelator or things would be worse...I must make it a point to work on a Tamiya kit next build....I have two other RM kits in "incomplete status" in a holding pattern-a T-6 Texan and the bf109 G-10 and neither are as bad a fit as this kit.

The kit in the background is my Fathers Day gift from my teenager....looks like I'll be building a car soon...anybody up for an Auto Racing Group Build?  Whistling [:-^]

Sorry to hear about the fit problems with this kit, bobbaily. Nevertheless, I'm sure you'll overcome those gaps and problems and make this kit a stunner.Thumbs Up [tup]

Auto Racing Group Build.....nah, last time I built a car(one year ago) I felt sick to my stomach. Maybe it was the flu I had or maybe it was wrong of me to build a car since it was going against the darkside. Either way, I'm not gonna be building a car anytime soon.Wink [;)]

It sure is quiet around here.......too quiet.Shock [:O]Big Smile [:D]

Anyways, over here on my end I'm gettin' closer to finishing my build.Smile [:)] The tools are all done so they can get attached soon. The .50 cal is in place(just waitin' for the ammo) and the .30 cal may go in today or tommorrow. I'm gettin' ready for decals(future on and drying.) Also pretty much finished weathering the wheels with a number of washes, so they will go in real soon. Look for an update tommorrrow, hopefully no unforseen problems will arise.

Looking forward to progress pics tomorrow mg.

No progress on my end.  Tonight is committed.  Hopefully tomorrow and/or Sunday I can get some time to do some seam filling & sanding, between sending out resumes and watching the big soccer match on Sunday.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

Okay here's my update, yeah I know it's a day late but yesterday was busy. Went to Cabela's (it's a one hour drive or so to the nearest one) thus that took a bit of time. I did however pick up a new Gerber pocketknife so I'm happy about that.Cool [8D] Then when I did try to get some pics up, I had nightmarish time trying to upload the pics(errors and just plain sluggishDead [xx(]). My computer was so damn slow, I finally figured out it was the new anti-virus software that made my computer a snail. Thus that sorta wasted a big chunk of time.......but enough with my rant of sorts here's the much delayed update.

The .50 cal is permanently in place along with the box and scratch ammo tray. The ammo belt itself will go in at a later time(already painted). The antenna is in place, along with all four wheels. Also put down some future on the hull sides so I can get the decals on soon.

The antenna base is the kit supplied one, just a little bit of sanding is necessary. As for the top antenna wire, I used some copper wire. The kits instructions say to use stretch sprue(no kit supplied part), but its entirely your choice of what material you want to use.

The .50 cal is in place, painted a base color of Testor's Steel mixed w/Black. Then some drybrushing of a lighter shade of Testor's steel also darkened w/black. I drilled out the cooling holes a bit just to give some depth, along with the barrel.

The wheels are all on......finally.Wink [;)] Put down a burnt umber wash then sealed them with some Krylon Matte acrylic finish from a rattle can. I also sealed the wheel wells, so I could move onto the pastels with worrying about them dissapering. I then rolled the wheels in a mixture of pastel colors like sepia, burnt umber, and vandyke brown. Yes the hull sides are super shiny but that's the Future.

Yeah, I know this pic is sorta bad so I'm sorry about that. All the tools and guns have got their wooden parts finished off. Used Testor's wood for the base coat, then applied some Tamiya acrylic clear orange, and finally some washes of burnt umber(to darken the color and to get the wood grain.)

Thanks for looking.Smile [:)] I'm getting the .30 cal in place and decals on later today. Hopefully the decals will go on nicely, but I'm preparing for the worst(thankully have some substitute decals.Big Smile [:D])

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

Mg-Sorry that you had the computer issues-they can be very frustrating.  But it sounds like a good day otherwise.

Nice work on your build.  Looks great.

I hope to do some seam filling this evening.  Spend the day watching the FIFA Soccer match....which started great and turned really bad for the US and then prep'ed and sent out a couple of resumes-job search time again.  Hopefully I can make some progress later this week on the P-40.

Thanks for the comments, bobbaily. Hope to get some more work done today........hopefully.

I caught that game today too. It looked like USA had a good chance with a score of 2-0. But then suddenly Brazil stepped it up and won 3-2. Sorta suprised.....but then again it's Brazil.Wink [;)]
