Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)
Thanks guys! I got the Future coat on in the morning and decals applied in the evening. Gonna check for any needing Micro Sol shortly here. More pics will be up by the end of the weekend. nearing the finish line now. I am using decals from Cutting Edge. They went on well enough, but CE boned up and did not provide any  lower wing insignia. Big "DOH!" on their part. So I had to raid my other kits for a set.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

Hey all....progress in very small steps.  P-40 is full of putty-ended up having to do a lot of work around the wheel flaring.  I haven't sanded it out yet-tomorrow am hopefully.  Hope to have a coat of primer on it by end of the day tomorrow.

I didn't realize that Revell/Monogram had put their 'stamp' into the wheel well until I had it painted and assembled.....Banged Head [banghead].  One of these days I hope to take this same kit and do it up right.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

I did not get to take pics last weekend of my P-39 but here is where it's at now. I had applied another coat of Micro Sol shortly before these pics were taken, so hopefully any decal issues you see in these pics regarding fit will be gone shortly. I do have to do a few touch ups of red on the stars. As things are now, I may have it done by Sunday evening...

Now for painting the wheels, exhausts, a wash, topcoat, some soot staining and the final touches...

Hey all.  Paint is on....hopefully a coat of Future tomorrow, decals Thursday, more Future and then some weathering.  I think I'm going to try the oil dot method that is very popular with the armour folks.

OT- Mg-When do you start college?

Stikpusher and Bob - keep up the good work. You guys are looking great as well.

Sadly for me, summer has hit hard, and I've had zero time for the forum OR building...went in my modeling room yesterday - the calendar is still on June. Ugh. Disapprove [V] Also the first time I've been on the forum in almost three weeks. By far my longest hiatus ever. Not something I was looking forward to! I will indeed finish up my Sov Sherman at some point, but don't hold your breath. I'm quite disappointed, I'm really interested in the whole Lend/Lease idea and wanted to contribute. Promise I'll fire up some pics when it is indeed finished. Thumbs Up [tup]

I am oh so close now.. the weathing wash is done so now all that is left is final top coat, removing the canopy masks, painting the navagation lights, adding the soot stains for exhaust, the antenna wire, and the exhausts. Not gonna say when to jinx myself, but real soon...Propeller [8-]

OK, I am calling this one done.... (well as far as this GB is concerned. I have a dio idea brewing but that is for later...)

I hope you guys like it. The antenna wire did not turn out as I had intended, but I am still new to that technique.

Your Lend-Lease Airacobra looks fantastic, stikpusher!!Thumbs Up [tup]Cool [8D] I love the look of the propeller and exhausts, they have a great rough and used look to them. Your cockpit control panel also looks amazing, good thing you left the door open.

I've already updated the first page. Feel free to claim the badge, you've certainly earned it.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

Mg-congrats on making the Tips sections of FSM.  Usually the check comes after the magazine.  Go figure.

Saw your post over in the armour section regarding your road trip-glad to hear that you had a great time.

The P-40 is painted & decaled.  Canopy has been Futured and is drying. The Chinese insignia was from the old Academy kit-some silvering.  The openings for the kit gun sights are big...but not as big as the sights themselves.  I think I'll fill them in and touch-up the paint.  May use some leftover PE sights.  Also, the paint is a bit darker than most other P-40 models that I have seen.  However, since this plane was orginially an RAF plane, I thought the colors may have been closer to RAF spec.  Also, the few B&W pics that I have seen of the early AVG P-40's are very dark.  I may either try some lighter pastel chalk weathering or the oil dot technique that is popular with the armour folks.

Your P-40 is really turning into a stunner, bobbaily! Your right about that older decal silvering, but I'm sure you'll be able to resolve the issue.Wink [;)] Oh, and thanks for checkin' out my WWII Victory Museum thread.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

So..............remember a while back I mentioned I was hoping to start another GB in the coming months(not sure of the start date yet) and I left that teaser saying if you like post-WWII Soviet armor & aircraft you'll like this GB? Well, if you do remember good for you, and if you don't then here's the big moment(a treat for those following the Lend-Lease GB.Wink [;)])

Without further ado, I hope to start a GB on the Soviet-Afghan War......look for the 'feeler/interest' threads out in early September. I hope this topic spikes some interest and gets folks talking, that way this GB will get off the ground.

Where's those updates?Question [?] We still have some modelers finishing up and it seems to be dead quiet around here. If you don't have an update share your thoughts, comments, concerns on my next possible GB.

Ah...updates...yes.....err...no.  No progress-busy looking for employment.  Hope to get the canopy masked and painted by the end of the weekend.  Probably only an hour's total work left, just hard to get started.

Your GB idea is pretty cool & unique.  Hope you get a lot of interest/participation.  Unfortunatly, I'm limited to building only what is in the stash and there is nothing there that fits.

Re: Lend-Lease GB (1/1/09-7/1/09)

As for an update, not much is going on other than work.  My last minute rush to get stuff done for the club builds going to Nationals was a bust as none of the group builds are going (good thing as none of kits were close to being done, but would've been).  Got the model building blues as I know I need to get stuff done, but don't have the gumption.  Tried to do some painting on a SU-100 that was going to the Nats and now my airbrush is on the fritz.  On the good side of things, I found a Hobby Boss P-40 to take the place of a totally horrendous Zvezda P-40 in Russian winter camo and have it mostly together.  Just some sanding, filling and possibly some rescribing and she'll be ready for some paint.  Haven't started the P-51 yet.  Soviet-Afghan War GB?  Looks like a Hind is on the horizon.

Bob,

Good luck on the job search, hopefully it'll end soon.
