Re: Armor trivia
the M113 never had an official name but i'm pretty sure the one in your picture had a 76mm gun and those were nicknamed "beasts"

The standard version (w/out turret) was given a number of nicknames depending on the nationality it served with

This version with turret has a official designation in it's country.    Some are serving in Afghanistan right now.

Re: Armor trivia

Since it's has been almost 24h, I will give the answer.

This Canadian variant is called T-LAV   (Tracked-Light Armored Vehicle)

The turret used is a modified version of the one mounted on the Grizzly vehicle, armed with a 7.62mm C-6 GPMG (MAG 58) and a 0.50 Cal. There is also a similar variant, the MTVE (Mobile Tactical Vehicle-Engineer) with a dozer blade, drilling equipment and a 6th road wheel.

Next:  what was the calibre of the sPzB 41 and what was special about it?

Re: Armor trivia

Excellent brother Tread Thumbs Up [tup]

A bit off course with the choke though, as it serves to direct the projectiles to a new centre of concentration. (longer range for same lethality)

The tapered bore was reducing the weight of the projectile, while keeping the same gas pressure behind it, thus it could achieve a higher velocity than something that would use the same cartridge with a non tapered barrel.

The next one is yours.

what are both designations for the soviet flamethrower varients as equipped on t-34s and kv-1s?--this would mean original designation of the flame thrower and updated or improved version---- treadCool [8D]

Re: Armor trivia
let me see if i understand the question the standard flamethrower T-34(76)is called the OT-34 and depending on the year the flamethrower was called the ATO-41 (1942) or ATO-42 (1943) the KV-1 flamethrower version was called the KV-8 and mounted the ATO-41 flamethrower
