My only big puzzlement with this kit is why they didn't include the FG1250 series passive IR system for it...it seems like a no-brainer to me! I'll scratch one up.

Can you imagine the roar of that 88 in such a small turret? Yikes.

Now, I am am breaking off from the oob kit, and going into what-if land !

if you need a good photo let me know as I have one I can scan that shows it complete from top to bottom. (that is as soon as I figure what it quit working )

Thanks! I do have a lot of scale drawings already of the IR WW2 stuff, and the FG from the E-100 build. Neat stuff.
If you haven't picked up "My Tank is Fight!" by Parsons, I heavily recommend doing so !

cthulhu77, what did you do on the front hull with the paint? It's really unique, but I'm not sure what it's supposed to represent? Is it some kind of painting mistake?--all those squiggy lines?

The rest of the tank looks really very cool...

Re: Panther II, 1946
after having done years of research about zimmerit, I have learned quite a lot more than what is typically thought of...fantastic material, and in this "armor '46" version, seemed applicable. Pardon the pun.

Re: Panther II, 1946
The Germans disguised tanks as Allied vehicles during a few offenses in WW2, especially the Battle of the Bulge.

In this case, the disguise was only used at night, by employing painted plywood sheets to make the Panther look like a damaged Sherman.

This is one of the sweetest things I've seen in some time. Did the German's really do that with the plywood?

Re: Panther II, 1946
thanks all ! the germans used all sorts of strategies to disguise tanks, including welding plates onto the hull and turret to change the outline.

Re: Panther II, 1946
Part Three

Through the night vision device, Klaus saw the lead M-10 pass by the alley. The Maus heavy tank was covered by tarps and debris, impossible to spot.
“Werner, AT load, “ he said into the mike. “ Target tank, 112.” The second tank-killer came into view, “ Fire!” The massive shell slammed into the second tank, exploding it into millions of pieces instantly. Debris fell down around them in a rain of metal and flesh. “Move back!” The huge tracks dug into the brickwork and the tank went into reverse, hiding itself into the garage of the factory, hidden from the enemy.
The first tank jumped forward from the blast. “ Jesus! What the hell was that?” the commander screamed down the hatch. “Echo One, we are in an ambush!” The radio squawked, “Repeat, we are being ambushed!” The large barrel of the tank destroyer searched about the plaza, seeing no enemy vehicles at all. “We have two burned 4’s near a fountain, some ground personnel, nothing else.”
“Rockets at three!” Two X-7’s, stubby wings with bright exhaust trails leapt from the dark roofways of the ruined city. The missiles swept down onto the Pershing tank and the M-4 halftrack. Two explosions rocked the ground, and the Allied invasion sweep was halted completely. The troops fired randomly into the dark, but they couldn’t see anything, no muzzle flash, nothing to aim at . .45 caliber rounds bounced off of the thick white brick, raising a series of dust devils in powdered lime.
The only sound was the echo of the explosions, the roar of the burning vehicles, and the screams and moans of the wounded.

And then the US Battalion commander said: "Enough of this crap" and called in the USAAF.  He ordered his entire front line to withdraw 2 miles and later that afternoon, a B29 dropped an A Bomb on the stubborn German defenders.

LOL (Just having a little fun with you)
