That's right! Engineers are very important part of the Army.  Especially when they are digging our latrines for us Infantrymen!  Without them, we will have to use the nearest tree to get rid of our bodily waste.  J/K Cool [8D]

WOW This is one Heck of a PEEING contest going on EH? ( Just a JOKE guys I'm sure you know that ) I am enjoying the debate though plenty of info flying around here.a few things i would to love to know though (1) Was not the 155mm howitzer considered HEAVY artillary during WWII ? (2) cannot ALL cannon (other than mortars ie. Karl Morser and other siege types) with correct preparation be used directly or indirectally? i seem to remember the british using their field guns  and the americans using pershings and shermans dug in as artillary. (3) does not ALL military forces rely on ALL types of personel to Get the JOB DONE and prevent casualties as much as possible??? although I do LOVE the TUG"O"WAR a debate like this has going with information and statistics being volleyed back and forth,How come the put downs and flaming HAVE to be part of it???? Re: Mystery field artillery piece

Panzerwulff,

You are right on most of the things you posted.  We are just having fun talking about eachother's MOS/Branch.  As an Infantryman, we used to make fun of other branch/mos all the time because we always say "if you are not infantry, you are nothing more than supporting personnel."  And FA guys would say "we are the king of battle and you are the queen."  I once made a comment about QuarterMaster officers and next 3 weeks, my platoon was eating MREs 3 times a day, until I went back and appologized.  My CO made a joke in front of a finance officer (he said "if you get a papercut, are you entitle to a Purple heart?") and his next 2 paychecks mysteriously never been deposited into his account.  I spent good amount of time away from the civilization and my respect for my brothers/sisters in arms grew even more (even if they are not INFANTRY, afterall, no one is perfect). Tongue [:P]As an Infantryman, I had to rely on many other units in order to accomplish mission and keep my soldiers happy in the field.

I've been reading a book call "Armor warfare in Korea" and it seems like after 1950, tanks were used as artillery.

Anyway, even though it may sound like we are putting eachother down, but we do have (or at least I have) great respect for everyone in the armed forces.

Actually that's the sound an Infantryman makes when he jumps out of my helicopter with 60lbs of junk on his back.

In reality, we all helped each other as the need arose

We don't have the answer to this Mysterious artillery piece because we still don't have the photo of it.

Anyway, if you want to vote me in as your dictator, I'll make sure that there will be no more sales tax on military models and accesories.  Big Smile [:D]

Whatever.  You still have issues in my book.  Seams you have a real issue with anyone or anything to do with the NTC.  I don't get it, but whatever floats your boat.  Good job supporting fellow Artillerymen too, buddy is only half the word.

"The only heavy artillery in the US inventory is the M270 MLRS."

When I picked my screen name, I was MLRS, the avatar was just recently added, that is why, if you must know.

Also, no idea the guy had dyslexia till after I posted.  He still could use spell check.

Since you are YG94, how about a real name, instead of your BS handle here.  I too am YG94, we may actually know eachother.  That would be something.

Lastly, I do have 1st hand knowledge on the French 75.  We had 3 of them (no not Pack 75s) at Ft Stewart, my Bn, 1-39FA (MLRS), had the Salute Battery duties.  I fired them on a few occasions at ceremonies.  Part of taking the Salute Battery was to learn the history and signifigance of the pieces as well.

True , and thats why the votes don't need to be counted , there's only one candidate .

Please dont take our friendly banter the wrong way.  We all get along great and know that the mission would not get accomplished without all of the various MOS's working together.  We are all one big happy disfunctional family.

Back on topic... this poor fellow's answer maybe that the gun is one of the Sims-Dudley dynamite guns used during the Span-Am war.  It would be quite amazing that one would still exist.  They fired the Whitehead Aerial Torpedo.  This was the last step before real HE artillery.

The gun could be one of the US copies of the British Breechloaders. I belive we had some in the Post civil war era used against the Indians. I saw something about them on mail call awhileback but I can't remember their name.
