(no offense Rob! :))
None taken, I'm not a lawyer, just an Army officer who is frequently called upon to do his civic duty in the military judicial system. I'm actually an armor/ordnance (maintenance) officer.

Hey we are almost co-workers.  I am a Nurse Manager for the County at LAC+USC Medical Center. My work is really exciting. I write nursing policies/procedures, do research, and manage a QA department.

Re: In real life......

Until as of recent I was a Quality control tech at my company for almost 9 years.

I am now busting my tail as a welder on the production line.

Most people ask why I left such a cushy job, and I tell them that their were no more challanges and the job had lost it's luster.

besides, welding pay's better Wink [;)]

Re: In real life......

I'm currently active duty U.S. Navy ( 16 years).  I served from 1990-1994 on CVN-65 USS Enterprise.  Then I got out and decided to go to college.  Well, college lasted only for a short time for me.  I majored in beer, women, and ,,,,,,well I will leave that out being that this isnt the place to discuss some things.

Anway, came back into the Navy in 1996 and since then I have worked on F-14's (VF-143, VFA-143 The World Famous Pukin Dogs') both with the Tomcat and the Super Hornet F-18E.  Also served two tours at shore duty I level maintenance on the F404-414 engines for the F-18.  While serving in the commands I held a variety of positions ranging from A/C Painting & Corrosion Prevention, Quality Assurance, Flight Deck Troubleshooting, Line Maintenance, Power Plants, Hazardous Waste/Hazardous Material Management, Confined Space Engineering, Teardown and Build Up, Quality Assurance Rep/Collateral Duty Inspection of all the 5 modules of the F-18 Engines, and molding and shaping young minds both in the area of what it means to be a good sailor and "good" port call sailor.

So since 1990 with a two year break as a civilian and then back at it again in 1996 I have been active duty U.S. Navy Airdale, Brownshoe Sailor.  Plan on retiring in 4 years or so if I don't make CPO.  If I do I will stay in for 24 and then move on to something new.

Re: In real life......

I'm just a old Chrysler factory trained technician working in a small shop in Western Connecticut. Every one in a while I will restore something old and interesting that gets pushed into the shop. Just got an old 67 mustang back on her feet agian and burning gas. Sometimes a caliper upgrade on an old Corvette. I was widowed back in 1994 so I have alot more free time than some of you guys with the honey do lists! Been glueiing plastic since 1974. i think I've build just about everything that fights on the ground air or sea. Even dabbled in some large scale balsa when I was younger. Fibromyalgia has put a damper on my bench time in the last two years. Its a real pain in the rear afliction that causes muscle pain and numbness sometimes but I'm a tough old bird and i will never let it stop me from doing what I love. You boys in the BoB group build know that i missed the first week of thwe build due to this condition. Well enough about me I do not want to put anybody to sleep!

Re: In real life......

Took a long time for a thread like this to be created on FSM.

I'm in the IT industry as well. I work as a systems programmer, and support all major (and minor) infrastructure components for a 30k employee network. Anything to do with computers, I'm there.

Been modelling for years, but slowing down now, as other things in life are taking up the time. My car is my other hobby. Namely modifying, racing, etc.

Re: In real life......

Well, I'm probably one of the most boring people here. Been married 19 years this July 14th, and spent about 12 of those years running restaurants as a manager. Got tired of the politics and the constant attempts to make you work harder than necessary, so I left. Worked a stint at a hobby shop, and then at a Pizza Hut as a delivery driver. During those two jobs, every fall I'd build Halloween Haunt at Knott's Berry Farm for ten years. Now, I'm an independent handyman carpenter with my own work truck complete with a lumber rack, but it's been more famine than feast for me. This has given me loads of time to build models, thus allowing me to approach 1100 models completed at this point. I may have even passed that milestone, I don't know. Fortunately I have a large stash still, and plenty of building supplies since I can't afford to be buying too much new stuff.  And yes, I still have almost all of my almost 1100 models that I built from when I was seven till now. (I only took a two-year break) I've given away 6 models that I'd built for people, lost about 11 during moves as a kid, and had 7 stolen from me from either a show or a public display. The rest are in my hobby room now.

I don't post here as much as I used to, but I do browse these Forums quite frequently. This is a great Thread!

Re: In real life......
I'm in the field of aircraft restoration and reverse engineering. I went through engineering school and halfway through senior year I decided that I hated math and sitting in cubicles. Best decision I could have made. I use my engineering knowledge everyday, but I don't sit on my duff while doing it. I get to work with my hands and my brain, outside if I want, and get more reference photos than you can shake a telephone pole at. I'm no rockstar, but I am living my dream. Wink [;)]

Cheers,
Alex

Re: In real life......

Ok, here goes -

Civilian - Worked a variety of jobs until I joined the Army in Aug of 1963, went to college from 67 to 70 (history major), got married in 70,still married to the same gal - she's probably the only female who could have put up with me this long).  Along the way, we've managed to raise a couple of pretty good sons and now have a 7 year old grandson and two 4 year old granddaughters.  Got into aviation in 72, got my Powerplant rating in 75 and my Airframe rating in 76 followed by my Authorized Inspector in 79.  Got my Private Pilot in 81.  Worked as an A&P full time until 96 (got tired of arguing with owners/operators, usually about the size of their bill and when/how are they going to pay it).  Still work on a/c part time (I can now pick and choose who I work for and what I work on). Since then, I have worked full time as a civilian electronics security technician for the Adjutunt Generals Department, Kansas Army National Guard - I'm eligible for retirement but plan on staying for at least a couple of more years before retiring at which time I put a little more time and energy in the aircraft side.

Military - Enlisted in the Army Security Agency on my 19th birthday, 31 Aug 1963 (for you who don't know, that's Militiary Intelligence - which is a basic oxymoron in anybodies language).  Got out 4 years later and swore I would never re-enlist. 17 years later I got talked into a "Try One" and enlisted in 1/127FA of the Kansas Guard and 20 yrs later retired from the same unit.  Still kinda proud that the 127th was picked as the first Readiness Component (Guard/Reserve) unit to field the M109A6 Paladin - we fielded them 2 years before the 1st ID at Ft. Riley.  Now the Guard pays me not to attend drills.

Hobbies - Of course my primary hobby is modeling, but I also enjoy photography (finally got a decent camera - Canon Rebel XTI), reading, classical music, woodworking (very, very slowly aquiring the equipment) and camping/fishing with the wife and kids/grandkids. My major interests in modeling are 1/72 aircraft (mostly prop driven) followed by 1/35 armor, and 1/700 ships.  I also occasionaly will venture into other scales (currently working on a 1/32 Stuka to be followed by a 1/32 BF110C-4)

Re: In real life......

Eighteen years working in the aerospace industry as a Electronics Engineering Technician working on prototype test equipment, got tired of getting laid off every few years. The last 7 years I have been working in a inner city hospital as a Biomedical Specialist in a 20 bed dialysis unit.

Re: In real life......

I served in the Canadian Artillery for 28 years, 6 years as a reservist while going to school, and then transfered to regular forces after that.  Served the Guns from 75 to 83, then crossed over to Air Defence from 83 until I was medically released in 2003.  Took a car accident to cause that.

As you can see from my avatar I worked with the ADATS.  I was a Troop Warrant Officer in charge of a troop of ADATS in the Canadian Airdefence.  After my accident I was assigned to the Artillery School as an instructor until my release.

Then worked for a Cable service doing High Speed internet support for clients for awhile till health issues forced me onto disablility...

Cheers.

Been a while since I posted here.  Start year 25 as a police officer on 01 Oct.  Effective 01 October 2014, I'll be on the 'Two Minute Plan'.  If they annoy me one minute, I'm gone the next!
