Ok, I think you out rank me in experience for sure. But, to asnswer your question, yes I was a Treadhead on M1A1 and M1A2 tanks for 6 years, being medically discharged in 2005. I did all 4 position on them, Driver, Loader, Gunner and Tank Commander(For all of 1 day, my TC was absent.) Sounds like people approve of the ranking system idea. So all put something together and present it soon. See ya Scott

A whole hearted YES to the rankings. I have made my first two choices. The Dragon Malan Su 76 in 1/35 and a MiG I-270 in 1/72. I have several more but let's start with those. Satch

Thunderbolt how about we do the Red Arrows of 12 Guards Defence (PVO) of Moscow. It looks like there are 3 variants we can choose from. It will also force us to try out the Microscale decal saver as Aeromaster doesnt seem to offer these markings. After looking at the links and builds you posted ( spent last evening reading them) I am also thinking of doing an open cowling, I havent done this in the past but the detail just looks too cool. Microscale also offers a glue that allows removing a part that I may use on the cowling ( dont remember what they are calling it ). Anyway let me know which one you will build so we dont build the same one, anyone of them is fine with me. Mine will be built OOB with a few bits added for detail like wire and such and the vacufrormed canopy, want to be able to see the cockpit detail ya know.

Ranking as part of the GB sounds fun! I have several subjects that I want to build- tackling land, sea, and air subjects would be fun. First up I am gonna build the Alanger 1/350 Akula submarine kit.

Hi Randy -- Sounds good. I'll be going with a closed engine bay and probably the Sqaudron canopy. Eduard make masks as well, they're a must. I searched eBay and Squadron last night, no luck on the Aeromaster sheets. I'll try the LDF experiment on the kit decals and see how they go, just a single marking from one of the schemes I'm not interested in. If it works okay then we can rock'n'roll with the kit sheet. If not we'll need to scrounge markings from elsewhere, or possibly do a custom job on some slogans and codes. If they're not white lettering it's not too hard. If they are... ![Angry [:(!]](/emoticons/icon_smile_angry.gif) Yes, the 12th Guards planes with the arrows are soooo iconic! Encore released their 1:72s in these markings, including the red wings version as well. I agree, it's hardly camouflage, but the experts seem to think it was done. Maybe it was a special marking that showed contempt for the enemy? A white fighter is so unusual, I've never done a winter scheme yet, so that would really be attractive! I'm also thinking of doing an ICM Yak-9. We have one flying here in Aus in squadron markings whose crest was a giant eagle clutching a Bf 109 in its claws! I got great reference photos when I saw the plane in action in February '07, and if I have the right -9 subtype in my stash (I'll need to check) it's an obvious project. The great news is Aeromaster have those markings (Falcons of the Red Star Part II) and I have a bid on that sheet on eBay right now. Looking good, we need to get some bits and pieces together but we'll have some cool MiGs! Cheers, Mike/TB379

Mike sounds like we are stylin I will order my canopy from squadron next week. The markings I will use is #8 on the kit decal sheet looks like 3A POAHHY. When were you planning to start yours ? I have an F-104 on the bench with a P-51 air racer on deck.

Randy -- yep, looking good. I checked the decal sheet, "3A POAHHY" (For Rodnny -- not sure who he was) is the tenth scheme on the sheet, I'm looking at the eighth (3A CTALNH -- For Stalin.) Not sure when I'll make a start, I'm thinking in the New Year. I have my Me 262 for Reich Defenders II moving along, I must get the paintjob onto my Thunderjet for NMF, I have a StuG IV for 1000 Roadwheels to finish, Corsairs was revitalised and extended so I should try to finish my F4U-1D, I have some models to do for articles, an M981 I was doing for fun that's ready for paint... Yep, I reckon in the New Year! That gives me time to grab the extras and keep an eye open for the Aeromaster sheets. BTW, I just emailed the pilot of that Yak-9 flying down here to look for painting info. I also checked the website for ICM and their MiG-3, Yak-7 and Yak-9 kits are all out of the range at this time -- so keep an eye on eBay for extra examples! Cheers, Mike.TB379

I picked up the BTR 152 kit by ICM, 1/72 at the LHS today. Wow, it's pretty crude. But I figure if I'm going to do this GB right, a gaggle of models is in order. Order of the Red Star, that is! Figure to earn mine in the next week!

Mike that date will be perfect for me ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/icon_smile_big.gif) I just like the look of that scheme is why I choose that one, will have to do a lil research for giggles on it though. I got lucky with the MiG 3 I won it on Ebay for 7 bucks including shipping last year before the price gouging started up. I will keep an eye out though I saw some PE for the migs a while back well priced but didnt get it. I do still want to do a red wing with the NMF nose like the box art. Hopefully I will get lucky again.

Randy -- I think I got mine the same way for something similar, but for about a year even then the MiGs were getting scarce, now the Yaks have thinned out too. I have a watch on some PE flaps for the MiG, not sure if I'll go that road yet. Basically we need to find a trader selling off a batch, we each need several more! Mike

Hi Stik -- Good heavens, that's what it means? Thanks! I never got far enough into Russian to follow more than a smattering, though the third selection from the same unit, "For the Bolshevik Party" is obvious enough. I learned almost all the Russian I know from painstaking comparison of the English and Russian instructions in Zvezda kits! I got a teach-yourself-Russian CD but it was not transliterated into English characters and diving in with the Cyrillic from the beginning was too big a leap without a teacher. Cheers, Mike

Your Russian is probably still better than mine, Mike... not to mention trying to learn the Cyrillic alphabet. I know a little Serbo Croation, and that is not too far removed from Russian as far as I can tell (Pectopah-Restoran is my Rosetta stone in my minds eye.... ![Laugh [(-D]](/emoticons/icon_smile_newlaugh.gif) ) Many words and phrases sound similar. But as to learning the meaning of Rodina, I must confess, I picked up frm reading Tom Clancy novels.

за родния Is that what your decal looks like? That is roughly For the Motherland. For Stalin was correct also. I took Russian in college and can still read cyrillic for the most part.! Имейте забаву! (have fun)
