Re: A rare reaction to a flu shot

You ALL have gone out and found your own particular brick walls, and bully to you. Rigid epistemology is a failure. Faith and certainty cannot be the same thing. When we have faith in something, we trust in it. When we know something, our faith no longer exists.

I'd personally suggest reading a summary of Kant's Third Critique. All of it's flaws, in particular it's 18th century northern eurocentric view of what's pleasing or not pleasing, aside; it is IMHO a marvelous explanation of how we reason in the absence of all of the facts.

Bill,

How about Pascal's wager? Another work that is excellent.

Faith and certainty cannot be the same thing. When we have faith in something, we trust in it. When we know something, our faith no longer exists.

That would depend on your definition of "faith" Bill. Do you think it is just wishful thinking or do you define it as a trust as I do? I have faith that the airline pilot will get me to my destination safely, that is faith in the pilot, not presumption. Would you agree?

You're placing your life in a the hands of a man who is piloting many tons of metal being suspended and propelled by nothing more than theory, aerodynamic theory.

The proof of a conclusion depends on both the truth of the premises and the validity of the argument.
