Re: 1,000 Roadwheels - 2009

Since I put my StuG IV on the IMS3 list, I'll join here with the Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf H, Tamiya 1/35. If my StuG isn't choosen, then perhaps I can add it here if I'm done with this one.

Cheers,

Azgaron

Re: 1,000 Roadwheels - 2009

Italeri makes an H as well.

Of course I'm in with another build I'll never finish. It's one of the oldest in my stash, so now I have some motivation. I'll  be building the Tamiya J in 1/35 with Eduard PE schurzen. Not the mesh ones, but ones that were used on the H and early J's. The Tamiya kits were closer to the early J's.  Whoop whoop.

And don't worry, my 251 is the very first thing on my to do list when i get back. And seeing as i have to spend a few days in camp before i get to go home, that means it will even come before the other half. See, at least i have my prioritys right.

And seeing as this is going to go on for all of 09, you can also put me down for the Italeri 1/35 Ostwind. Thats the only other Pz IV i have that no one else is doing.

Hi again Dupes,

Put me down officially for the Jagdpazer IV L/70, 1:35 Italeri with heaps of AM. I'm probably certifiable, but that's nothing new...

Cheers,

Mike

Activity galore...let me see if I can address everybody here. Big Smile [:D]

Moose, stickman - let me know what you guys decide to go with. Again, it's cool if we're able to get one of everything, but I have a feeling there will be some duplication. No biggie.

Warhammer - a K would be fine...if you can show me that there was ever such a thing as a K. It certainly didn't go into production, and I'm unable to find any modifications that have been labelled as a "K", but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Azgaron, Thunderbolt, Tigerman - you guys are added. Welcome to the club!

Bish - put you down for a second build, an Italeri Ostwind. Is that kit still available anywhere, or is it OOP? I NEEEEED to get one! Very surprised that Tamiya has never released one...all they have to do is make a new turret.

Boyd -  of course I need to find some way of making an A - you know I'm going to build one of each of them! (major project number 3...heh) Looks like that D cupola is close, but not quite. Not saying it couldn't be used as a basis for an A cupola, but that early one is considerably different. Saw that Betreiboffanhanger variant built up at the Dragon booth at Nationals (no paint) as a pre-release, looks VERY sweet!

Hey Dupes,

Another variant to add to the list on page 1 for someone who wants to do a kitbash/scratch build.  The Panzer IV 88mm

Dupes,

I've seen three of the Italeri Ostwinds, new boxing (the blue bordered one) over the past week at one of my LHSs...  But I got the Wirbelwind at a good deal, so I went with that one.  I "may" still add another for the GB, to see if we can in fact reach 1000 ROADWHEELS!

dupes,

I am running into a brick wall here. I have been unable to find anything else that even mentions a K. None of my references have anything about it. I doubt if it ever happened. I am trying to find more, like if there was a one off, but I doubt I will find anything more.

Edit- Well, I just became a member of the Achtung Panzer forums. Maybe I will be able to find something out there.

Hey dupes, I'd love to join this group build. I have a nice "one off" or "what if" kit of a panzer IV mounting a schmall turm (panther f turret). If this doesn't qualify let me know, I have plenty of other choices in the stash.Evil [}:)]

It's one of the kits i have had for years, like the Kugelblitz, which i beleve has just been re-realesed. A Tamiya one would be good. I believe the Italeri one is not the production version but one that was shown to Hitler, a sort of demo model, though i have no idea what the difference is.

Re: 1,000 Roadwheels - 2009

Does anyone know if and when the new Dragon Pz. IV Ausf D mit 7.5cm L/43 is available and where? If I can find it, I might build it as well.

It is about midway down:

I have seen them occasionally on ebay.

Re: 1,000 Roadwheels - 2009

Well, according to a member of the Armchair General forums (that is were the Achtung Panzer forums are) that is from Germany, the Ausf K wasn't even a paper-project. Just something someone at Krupp thought up. Here is what he has to say:

"It's fantasy, not even a paper project. However there was a Pz.Kpfw. IV project with sloped armor. The original concept for the Ausf. H, discussed between December 1942 und February 1943, had a 50mm sloped glacis plate, 80mm hull, 20mm forward belly plate, 45mm sloped sites, 45mm turret rear, reinforced roof, wider tracks, and triple or steel-tired roadwheels. In February 1943 nearly all of the planed new features where dropped, as the projected tank had reached a weight of over 28 tons and the demanded increase in production numbers didn't allow for such major design changes.

and:

"The Schmalturm auf Pz.Kpfw. IV was a Krupp proposal from November 1944 and was never really seriously considered."

Re: 1,000 Roadwheels - 2009

So I'm looking through the stash tonight looking for a kit to start and finish during my upcoming week off, and a surprise popped out at me.  I had a 1/72 Hasegawa Late Jagdpanzer IV L/48 in the stash!  I think that'll be my second project for this GB. (or first, depending on the Dicker Max)

In case you were wondering on the vacation project, I'm going with a 1/72 DML Panther.

I would love to see a concept of the IV with sloped frontal and side armor. The Schmalturm would be a bonus. Can someone make a drawing please???? LOL

Re: 1,000 Roadwheels - 2009

This is the link to the achtung panzer page that deals with the Pz IV. About 3/4 of the way down there is a sketch of the Aufs H with proposed Panther F turret.

http://www.achtungpanzer.com/panzerkampfwagen-iv.htm

Also, while it mentions an Ausf D with an l/48 gun, it dopesn't mention the L/43. Could this be a misprint or a slip up by Dragon.

tigerman,

Here is a link I posted earlier. It has a model of both the K, a regular hull with the Schmalturm, and a K with the Schmalturm.
