Re: Knights of the Sky II- 1/1/09 to 8/31/09

Thanks Frank. I know she is not the best Fokker D VII out there but I like the was it came out. If you do a part III I will definetly have to build the second kit now that I have learned a thing or two!

SC- Glad you had fun here, and it sure is great building something different, isn't it?  Not sure when there will be a part 3, but I'm sure it will come about in time.  I will be sure to put your name on the list when that happens! Approve [^]

Well done Stephen!  You've really turned out some beautiful Dr.I's here.  Thank you for being such a pivotal member here, with all of the stunning builds and friendly advise.  It would not have been the same without you here. Approve [^]

Oh, I did, Lufty.  I watched the video of the two guys starting up the Oberursel.  Those guys are WAY to serious, if I was there, I'd be grinning from ear to ear!  The sound it made was just THRILLING. :)

I know. And how cool was it that the engine was a 'New Build' Awesome. Did you see the vid of the huge 4 bladed sucker running?

Yes!  I know that those original engines leaked oil like crazy, but at the end of that vid, I saw fluids leaking just after it stopped.  I thought that the new build wouldn't leak so much.  I don't know much about those designs; perhaps it needs to leak in order to keep all the rockers and other linkages lubed?

Yep, and I got chills when I heard that "POIT" sound it made when it first turned over (at 1:11). :)

Thanks a bunch for that link.  I need to send it to my father.

Re: Knights of the Sky II- 1/1/09 to 8/31/09

ok here we go...my builds are done.

there not finished perfectly and there are a couple of pieces missing off each but i learned alot from doing this dual build.

the next time i build one of these babies(i have 4 dual kits on the shelf)i will finish the various pieces before putting the whole thing together and the biggest thing i didnt do was to drill out all the rigging holes first,i wont forget that again!Smile [:)]

anyway hope you like them and sign me up for knights of the sky 3 Make a Toast [#toast]

What a couple of fantastic builds. I wish i could photograph my models half as good as your pics, let alone build em as good.

They both look good Ludwig. I always wanted to build an all red DR I. You did a fantastic job on both.

Re: Knights of the Sky II- 1/1/09 to 8/31/09

Hello everyone, Fantastic Builds to all.

SC, the DVII turned out great.

Stephen, the 3 Trideckers are awesome. And to build 3 at a time, whew!

Ludwig, Both the DR1's are stunning, but I'm with SC, the Red looks great.

Daywalker, Sorry about not finishing the EV. I over ran the time I'd estimated for an armour build and wouldn't want to rush it. I'll save the EV for KOTS III, along with a shelf of others.

 Great looking aircraft everyone!

Stephen, I should check in more often, I missed that DR1 on 48. I especially liked that one too. The streaked camo is really awesome. I also checked in on that cool website Luftwoller mentioned. That is phenomenal to see the DR1 engine fire up and run. Anyway, Thanks again for the correction(I really enjoyed it) and I am sorry I missed the earlier posted Tridecker.Blush [:I]

Hey luftwoller I added that website to the Favs. Thanks for sharing.

ludwig- Absolutely gorgeous builds!  I must say, a pair of stunning triplanes.  The markings on the first one are the ones I paln to use on mine when I get to it, thanks for the inspiration.  What color did you use for the red triplane?  I like it.  Your weathering looks just right to my eyes as well.

I updated page 1 for you! Approve [^]

Mo- No worries my friend!  I shall look for that E.V in the next round. Wink [;)]

Next Round. . .?  I smell a change in the wind says I. . .The windsock is holding at S, SE.  Looks like there will be another patrol over the Salient.  Biscuits, tea and coffee for the morning meal.  Dawn patrol will have us up against the Richthofen's Circus me boy-o's.   Our mission is to escort some two seaters of 54 Sqn over Amiens.  We will met up at 0530 hrs, here over map grid 432H.  Sharp's the action and be on it.  This is one of the Boche's big dromes.  Everyone to their bus.  Starting magneto off, swing the prop sergeant.  Now, mags on and one more swing. Settle down to let the oil warm and the rev's to even up.  There, waiting for the hand signals.  To the chocks men. . .stand by.

Soulcrusher, Stephen, and Paul,

Nice work gentlemen! Bow [bow]

Frank,

I was going to mention that I hope that you are considering either extending the end date, or starting a KOTS III September 1, as I have another WWI kit on the way (and several in my stash).  As far as my progress is concerned, I had a productive week, and should be taking photographs of two completed planes soon.  Yes, I could not take looking at my nearly completed Hansa-Brandenburg W.29, so I finished it off.  The Pfalz D.IIIa needs to have a few final details added (wheels, actuating links, and tail control wires) and a final protective overcoat sprayed on.  I will post the photos as soon as they are taken.

Scott

Scott- How about we do an extension?  To be honest, my Morane Saulnier is sitting back in it's box as I have not felt like working on it lately.  I considered a different build, but didn't think there would be time to complete it.  Shall we extend the end date to say, October 31?
