OK, got the stickers on, combination of Sky Decals "Bf 109 in Italian Service" and decals from the kit.  They all went down beautifully.  The wing Balkankreuz will be over-sprayed with dark olive green and the Italian insignia will be applied.

Mike, looking sweet. Thumbs Up [tup]

The K is almost done.

I've attached most of the sticky out bits, just need to attach the canopy, the gunsight, the DF loop and a small Fug antenna on the aft fuselage.

But here are some pics in the mean time.

The canopy will be open when finished as it's slightly too wide at the rear to match the fuselage profile.

Re: Bf-109: Reich Defender GB 11/27/08-7/1/09

Moving right along...

The tail wheel was smooth hunk of plastic where the protective leather boot should be, lead foil to the rescue.  Wadded it up into a ball to give it some contours and then glued it to the tail wheel:

And then finished product, much better!:

Exhaust stacks were drilled out, would have like to have gone thinner but was afraid of going through the side wall:

Wash and flat coat applied, some of the other major components installed, starting to look like a 109!

I have some silvering on the wing insignia, can't seem to get rid of it which is real frustrating.

Mike- You are really going to town with this one!  Lookslike you are about finished with her, and she looks stunning my friend.  Great tip on the tailwheel boot too, thanks buddy! Approve [^]

I was thinking about part two today... I have the Knights of the Sky II Group Build running right now through October.  Perhaps a Reich Defender II starting November 1st?  Just a thought.  What do all of you think?  I would love your input.  It's you lads who have made this GB so much fun and informative.  Should we pick another airframe, like the FW-190 and it's variants, or possibly the 262?  If we were to consider something more obscure like the 162, 163, etc I'm afraid it would really limit the possibilities for different schemes as there were not that many utilized.  So, what do all of you think?

Frank I would be in for what ever GB parameters you set. I have something to suit just about any theme. I have the Tamiya Me 262 a Hasegawa Me 109 K an Eduard Fw 190 F-8. Just let me know when and where and I will be there tube of glue in one hand and exacto knife in the other! I would really like an excuse to build the Hasegawa 109 K. The November timeline sounds good also.

Frank -- I'm with the others on this, anything you line up will be met with glee! I have three Tamiya 262s on the shelf, I've put some extra 109s and 190s in the stash, though late model 190s have been a bit of a pain to get hold of. I'm sure i can come up with a suitable subject for any Reich Defender II you'd like to field!

I got the soft-masks onto the fuselage of my K-4 and have a photo, and I'm hoping to lay the 75 onto the fuselage today. You never know, if I get the bit in my teeth I might try to press on and do the green as well, then I'd be looking at touch-ups as needed and into the final stretch.

Thanks for the input fellas!  I am quite happy to hear that you enjoyed this GB, and would be up for another.  You guys ROCK!!! Bow [bow]

I must be honest, I am quite partial to the 109 so perhaps another 109 GB?  I mean, I like the 190, 262 and the others but there's just something about a 109... Approve [^]

Aaron- Isn't it just like me to corrupt you with 109s?  I have another one inbound to you tomorrow. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

SC- You know?  I don't have a Karl in my display case.  I think I should remedy that along with you. Wink [;)]

Re: Bf-109: Reich Defender GB 11/27/08-7/1/09

Frank,

Here's a couple of ideas I've had floating through my head:

1.  "Bf 109, The Early Years", this would cover everything we didn't in this one; the A up to the G-4.

2.  "Luftflotte Ost", this would cover the Luftwaffe and perhaps the other co-belligerents on the Eastern Front (Hungary, Finland, Romania, etc.)

Anyway, if it's Luftwaffe I'm in!

Well I have lots of 109's Early and late. And lots of other Freakish things Like the BV 189A and B.

The BV Whats that odd warped looking thing Frank? And then a 262 a couple 1/48 FW-190's not Tamiya ones and Even some of the He 112 and The Sea version of the 109. Then you have the Do 335 versions and Don't get me started on the bombers! Banged Head [banghead] Even a couple of the 1946 stuff. Oh the Humanity!

Why don't we all just build a Battleship? Laugh [(-D]

Re: Bf-109: Reich Defender GB 11/27/08-7/1/09
Here's my two cents.

#1 I'm partial to making a 262 build because its one of my favorite aircraft and I've got an extra kit of it in the stash. I've also got the V056 prototype which I'd like to strip down and rebuild because I didn't do it justice the first time around.

#2 I raised it earlier... but it might be fun to do an "Aces" build of 109 (possibly extending it to 190s as well.) There certainly were alot of 109 aces; Galland, Marseille, Rall, Barkhorn and Hartmann. That would open it up to an entire range of 109s, from early war to the end (think Marseille in his F-4 for example). Only problem is that some people might be turned off by the extra research required... but several makers do have ace kits, like Finemolds for 1/72.

Those are all great ideas. I have a ton of early 109's also. I also have a 1/48 Dragon Fw 190 A-8 in Prillers markings of the 190 he flew over the beaches on D-Day. I also have an old Airfix BV 141 if you want to build the oddball planes. I thiink we might have to take a vote. To many good ideas not enough time to do them all.

Well I have been eyeing more 109s in my stash... but I am gonna tackle a 190 next... whatever you decide on, I am willing to partake in.

Hmmm... and Ace's build, I like it!  Keep those ideas flowing in, I'm loving it! Big Smile [:D]

Glad to see all of the usual suspects are still here, and some very talented new faces as well!  Does the November 1st start date sound good to people?  That way, we've got some time to finish up other builds and get ready for part deux.

November 1st is perfect for me Frank. There were so many good ideas given so far but I think your right a Luftwaffe Aces GB would cover almost all of the ideas mentioned here. You could build early late or a jet just has to have markings of a plane used buy a Lufwaffe Ace. Sounds perfect but know I have to figure out which one of the planes I will chose. I definetly am going to have to do at least two or three now. A jet a early ace and a late war ace just to make sure I do'nt miss anything!

The Luftwaffe Aces sounds good, gives some other options besides 109's, not that you really need any, mind you... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]
