Tamiya 1:35th AAVP7A1 kit
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, July 22, 2006 3:33 PM

Does any one know where I can get the EAAK armor and an interior detail kit for the Tamiya 1:35th AAVP7A1 kit? Thanks.

I dont know anything about an interior but Hobby Fan and AEF both offer the exterior armor. However these are rather expensive, there is an old Trumpeter kit (I think) that offers the armor in plastic and would be worth buying to just get the armor.

As well as the EAAK kit, Hobby Fan also have a resin interior, with UGWS turret and internal cage.

Details here: http://www.hobbyfan.com.tw/product/product_detailshowP.asp?no=20050921027

do a search for AAVP7A1 or EEAK, in Armor on the FSM forums, there are over 100 posts, with links, pics, PMMS reviews of of the Tamiya kits, etc. You schould glean some hobby sites.

THe EEAK armor can be found in the Mini-Hobby /Toyway kit, consensus opinion is that it can be used to upgrade Tamiya kit, & scrap the track, or use it for practice.

Quoting HeavyArty (Gino P. Quintiliani)

" This is the old Trumpeter model, also labeled under the Mini Hobby label. It is not very accurate. The hull is way out of wack to allow for the motorization. Here is a review on it at Vodnik's site.
http://www.vodnik.net/pages/amtracs/aavp7a1wEAAK.htm

However, as he did, you can use the EEAK panels off of it and put them on the much better Tamiya AAVP-7A1, with a lottle extra sanding and tweaking, for a pretty accurate model. "

This will be a LOT cheaper than the HF kit, save your dollars for the AEF or HF Interior!

I have the HF EEAK Mounting KIT, (100's of TINY bolt-plates to glue to model & some detail upgrade bits).
For what they are, I would replace all the bolt-plates with plastic, to make it easier to handle.

If you want a scan of the instruction sheet, FYI, let me know

Enjoy

Cool, I have been quoted.  I concur with Jon, use the MiniHobby kit's EAAK.  I also prefer to scratch the interior as opposed to cutting off an arm to pay for Warrior's resin interior set, but that is just me.

Jthomas

good luch with the scratch, check previous fsm postings for inspiration & links for detail photos, but if you can get the Mini-hobby EEAK, do so, it might just save your sanity... & mine cost me under USD $10....

Respects to Heavy Aty, I'm erm, STILL, currently building LVTP5A1 With Hobby Fan Interior, which is a nice bit of kit & is going together well, apart from my air brushing!

When you build it, (Warrior or HF) please post a build report so we can all share the fun!

good luck

I’ll do a build progress photo type deal, and after I make a few strips of the EAAK maybe I write up a how too. This will be my first scratch too as I am kind of a new modeler (starting to get more serious about modeling than I used to be)

I’m still having some problems though trying to find a place to order the HF interior will my local hobby shop order one in for me b/c I’m having no luck finding that kit online, plenty of places with that ridiculously priced armor but no interiors.

At least your LHS will try! in the UK, its add 40% to dollar price, then add shipping!

Edit: Mission models, California have this listed, as well as the EEAK, but at $150 bucks ! Shock [:O]   http://www.missionmodels.com/product.php?productid=16431&cat=345&page=1

The two above, crazily stupid prices are why I scratch-build them.  HF thinks their stufff is made of gold or something.  Totally nuts!!

I was with the 15th MEU(SOC) in '93, attached to Amtraks.  I remember watching a AAVR7A1 Recovery Vehicle ride out the well deck of an LSD about 1 mile from the beach.  I thought that thing was going to sink.  It's so heavy with all of that recovery stuff on it.

I am currently working on an AAV with EAAK, my EAAK is an old dragon set and is requiring some cleaning up. Looks like it was modeled off of the experimental initial sets, having rounded openings, and the "gypsy" racks being slightly different, and missing some of the top side pieces.

As much as I would like to add an interior, I will go with scratch building it before I dump $100+ for it. The inside is fairly simple, almost everything is box shaped or has straight edges.

FYI---- The R7 variant is actually the quickest (if 8 kts can be called quick) in the water due to the weight of all the additional equipment carried, next being the C7, and finishing last the P7 - on water, on land its reverse order.
