Jug office pics

I'm finishing up the office for my Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Razorback.

First off- this is a sweet kit. Probably the finest molding I've ever seen. The casting is as good as resin stuff I've seen. It's not a cheap kit, but if you can get a Hobby Lobby 40% or 50% off coupon, you gotta get this one.

Anyway, here's the IP. I painted it black, then drybrushed it with RLM 66, then drybrushed silver, to bring out the bezel detail. The kit comes with a decal that lines up very nicely, so I applied that. I slapped on some decal solvent, then some dullcoat. I painted the red detail, and put a drop of Future in each instrument to give it a glassy look. I thought it turned out pretty good- I think it's the best IP I've done so far.

For the floor and sidepanels, I painted them flat black, then ZC green, kind of at an angle to get some preshading in there. (I had several photos that showed a darker green office in some, and ZC in the others. Having ZC on hand, and being lazy..... I went with ZC. Wink [;)]) Next, I painted the black parts, dry brushed more RLM 66, then some other colors. I followed that with a silver drybrush and some wash, which I overdid a little. I'll probably go back and touch that up a bit to tone it down. Shows up more in the photos than "for real". Still, it was fun to paint, and once in the fuselage, I think it'll look pretty good.

Humm I think the "Progress Dogs" are wearing off on someone LOL

Anyway These pics are great !! Very nice job. I sometimes overdue the drybrushing in an office just to make it stand out a little more once its all buttoned up. But thats just me. So I guess what I mean is that I like it the way it is.

Way to go buddy, looking fine as usual. I built this one acouple of months ago. I also have the bubble top. You're right Jon it is a very nice kit and the bubble top looks equally nice. I can't wait to see your progress on this one. I know you will show us another quality build.

Thanks for sharing

Holy crap, Jon. That's the best IP I've seen in a long time! Very impressive! Also, the leather case in the cockpit looks real! Bang up job here. I agree, the wash on the floor looks to be a little much. Also, did you drybrush any silver on the floor? Keep up the good work, buddy!!!
*Edit* Oh and the dark green you are referring to is Dark Dull Green, I believe. I'm not quite sure what color lines up with it well. I like the Zinc Chromate better anyway hehe

Great work so far JWB. Not to take things too far off topic, or hijack but do you or anyone else know when a WWII fighter planes'(or anyother year/type) cockpit got to be called an  office ? I don't hear that term all that offten. Just wondering? Agan, nice work, your skills are on steroids chief!                   Edit= Flying a desk was kindof a end of the line or a derrogratory remark to a pilot. I've probably said too much, sorry for the interjection.

Yeah prolly, but most of the first enclosed cockpit  pilots were farm boys that never seen a office. Amen

Very nice work so far Jon.  All Jugs from the Republic factory had the cockpit interior painted Dark Dull Green.  Late in the war, the Curtiss factory began building Jugs & those were painted Interior Green.  None were painted Green Zinc Chromate.

smokinguns3, DURR, davew6003, zipmeister, Bgrigg, BlackWolf3945, Living Legend, Dubau, mucker- Thanks to all of you for the kind words!

RadMax8- I did do some light drybrushing with silver, for some reason it just doesn't show up well in the photo. You can kinda see it on the bolts on the floor. Not as much as I usually do, though. Most times I feel like it ends up to silverey, so I did it more understated this time, just to see how it looks. I may dry brush  a little more silver- the photos really show me how it might have been too thin. Glad you pointed that out.

gulfstreamV- I'm not sure when the term office came in, but I started using it when I first started posting on here because the computer I had at the time had a very zealous internet filter on it. It would drop words like model and cockpit..... I couldn't get it to work right, so I just started saying kit and office. They just kind of stuck.

fockwulf- Yeah- pretty cool huh? I can't take credit for that. I've read here and other places about using Future for IP dials. I'd tried it in the past, but always got way to much on. This time I sharpened a toothpick real pointy, and applied tiny drops that settled out. The effect is actually much more dramatic "live". Works great, especially if you hit the IP with a good dull coat prior to the Future. Nice contrast.

rjkplasticmod- None were ZC? None? Hmmm...... wait! I got it! They ran out of the other colors at the end of the day, and had to get this plane off the line, so they hurried down to Home Depot and bought a can of ZC, just for this one bird. True story. Little known fact of history. Would I kid you fellas? Nah! Wink [;)]

(Is it wrong of me to be a lazy modeler? LOL)

Again- thanks to all!
