Doolittle B-25 FSM Article
I enjoyed reading the B-25 article a few minutes ago online, but I have a question.  As this model is supposed to represent Ted Lawson's "Ruptured Duck", isn't the tail gun position supposed to have painted black broomstick ".50's", according to his book "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo"?  Those broomsticks look more like regular .50 barrels.  It's just a thought as I remember reading the book 38 years ago,  and that had stuck in my mind.

I believe all of the B-25s had broomstick "fifties" to save weight and make a six o'clock bandit back off a little.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

While i haven't seen the article or photgraphs yet, i wonder if it may just be a matter of the same tooling as an older kit with the Ruptured Ducks markings?

I suppose if you wanted, you might be able to explain that that is his aircraft before they downgraded to the broomsticks. My My 2 cents [2c]

Got the article here in front of me - it's an Accurate Miniatures kit (I don't consider a 1999 kit an "old" kit my self).  The heading pic would indicate he included the "broomstick" 50s on the model - he just didn't seem mention them in the article.  I believe that on that particular version of the B-25, the tail position was only used for observation as origionally designed.

Hey, The original B-25s did NOT have tailguns, the broomstick barrel was, as stated earlier, was a bit of wishful thinking! I think the G was the first with a tail gunner position BUT there might have been a D with a tailgun I can't get to my 25 references......

Its good to see that their idea of using broomsticks is still making people 65 years laters think they are .50 cals.  Big Smile [:D]
