Build Time: 38H Assembly Time: 12 Hours Painting and Weathering Time: 26 Hours Aggregate VehicleBuild Time: 38 Hours Figure Build: Figure Assembly & prep: 4 hours Figure painting: 11 Hours Aggregate Figure Build Time: 15 Hours I finished the figure tonight by applying all the shadowing and then reapplying highlights and then one last attempt at getting the face to the best of my cuurent ablity. I then applied a couple a Raw Umber oil washes to tone everything together. I will start onthe base components tomorrow. I have some ideas and they invlove fall leaves and rocks and maybe a hedgrow, We shall see. Hope you like the pics:

Edmund, this piece is really REALLY well executed. That figure looks real to me, not real good, REAL. The molding is so well done, I can see the tendons in the guys wrist, and your painting only accents the crispness of the figure. I love the vehicle, your ageing of the camo is what I have tried to achieve in my own builds, it really looks good. But the MG guy, you need to give him a name, he's something special, really REALLY highlights the build, gives it immediate scale, sets it as a wartime vehicle, not an abandoned hulk or museum piece. His facial expression is perfect, i'm glad you didn't replace his head with berserker guy. I guess what I am saying is, when does the Edmund figure painting class start? If I could execute a figure half as good as MG guy (see, he needs a name) I'd never shelve another model without a figure or two. Any reccomended reading on that subject, at least? Well done, Edmund, I can't wait to see it on a base, but the work thus far is exceptional, not for your fifth build, it's just exceptional, period. Congratulations on an excellent build, sir. Bill

Wow Bill thank you for the kind words I am glad you like the build so far. I can't take credit for the molding but I did pick up on a central theme on all the figure painting tutorials and books that I have read so far is to use high quality figures and you really get what you pay for. I like the Tank, Alpine Minatures, Warriors and Royal Model figures the best so far. After a lot of research I chose to focus on Vallejo Model Color Acrylics as my main paint medium and all my research and reading has bene around painting with acrylics. I have read a lot about oils as well and seen some phenomenal examples of what peopel can accomplish with them but I chose to focus on improving my acrylic skills first. One book that stands out as the most helpful so far is put out by FineScale Modeler is How to Build Armore Diormas by Lynn Kessler. I fond his step by step tutorials very helpful. Here is a link to an online walkthrough of his. I really like his writing style and keep it simple approach. http://www.track-link.net/articles/96 Valeyo has a nice tutorial on thier web site as well: http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/asp-inc/_modelis_princip.asp?p1=ing&p2=modelcolor&p3 Andy (Bodge) has been very helpful as well but I don't have a link to him. ![Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]](/emoticons/icon_smile_swg.gif) Now you pretty much know as much as I do . I also bought the F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Questions about Painting Figure Techniques book which is okay but not as good as the F.A.Q book wqe all know so well.

I'm always amazed at the work people do on figures at this scale, and yours is just exceptional. The ability to add such character and such crisp and clean paint work on such a tiny little guy is very impressive. The work on the tank is gorgeous as well (of course)...I hope to be able to achieve such naturalistic weathering and subtle paint work. Thanks for providing such a clear example of what to shoot for.

Edmund - Outstanding work on the figure. Some figures take away from the vehicle, in you case it is a great addition. Very nice work ![Thumbs Up [tup]](/emoticons/icon_smile_thumbsup.gif) ![Thumbs Up [tup]](/emoticons/icon_smile_thumbsup.gif) Rounds Complete!!

Thanks as always for the encouragement Jim, but I haven't been painting figures long enough to have any skills! I can read a tutorial and walk through and practice that though. I can also buy quality materials and mediums and don't think I know anything and follow directions! The base is going to be fun!

My pleasure Glorbes and thanks for the kind words and comments. I really enjoyed your scratchbuilt larger scale tank. I was impressed with that! Very much so! ![Thumbs Up [tup]](/emoticons/icon_smile_thumbsup.gif)

Thanks Mike! I was afraid that my figure would not be up to the quality of the vehicle and I had a remediation plan ready to fire if the figure didn't turn out very well. I was going to put it up to a vote last night but once I started taking pictures and editing them I felt fairly confident I had accomplished my mission and didi the best I could with my present skillset. Now if my base ideal works out life will be good!

I have not decided whether I should use a rock outcroping or a log. I plan to cover the ground cover with a thick cover of fallen leaves. Let me know whichone you like the most. I am still undecided but leaning towards the log.

LOL! Flushable....... Hmmmm....... I have a sneaking suspicion that is a bad thing.... I think it might look better settled into the groundwork and half covered with the leaves though. I am still playing with the elelemtns. I just want a simle presentation

yeah, I think you should go with the log but somewhat cover it with some of the fallen leaves. Thanks, Jim.

Hmm, I think if you buried the log halfway and covered it with other groundwork, it would look pretty nice, however with the large rock, it looks like it could add location also, something like an Italian hillside or mountainous region etc. Don't know the service history of the 38(H) AOV, but that might dictate where you put it and how you model the terrain as well. Figure looks great btw! Nice job, looking forward to another one of your awesome bases!
