Stephen- Your Fokker is coming along beautifully!  The texturing you spoke of a while back really shows up on the fuselage deck- well done!  Thanks for the Spad review, glad to see that aircraft is finally getting some of the recognition that it deserves. Approve [^]

Daywalker,

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you, but as Halloween is my favorite holiday, and last Saturday was our trick-or-treat night then I spent Sunday taking down and storing decorations (I typically check in on weekends).  Anyway, yes the Airco DH-2 kit by Eduard is 1/48 scale.  I did manage to photograph the kit contents this past week and will show them below.  I was surprised to find the decals are printed with a faded appearance (it is not just my photographic abilities Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]).  In case I did not mention this before, I am going to attempt to build the kit in a weekend (or at least during a two-day span) over Thanksgiving in order to find out if this really is a "Weekend Kit" as advertised.

Stephen,

Thanks for the link on the build of the DH-2.Thumbs Up [tup]  I do not think that mine will look quite as good when I finish, as that paining method used on the fabric was absolutely phenomenal.  My hat is off to Lars Qvarfordt! Bow [bow]  Do you have an information on the technique that he uses or is it some "ancient Chinese secret"?

Daywalker,

I did run across that group on my way here this morning, but I think that I will just keep it here in case the project runs over for me.  I will be building straight out of the box, so the lack of rigging should save me considerable time.

He discussed it quite frankly in a thread.  His his images are mostly gone but the text is still there.  And he is quite easy to contact and talk to.  "a good fellow."

Eduard has a healthy line-up up kits and accessories for December, but the undoubted star of the show looks to be the long-awaited 1/48 scale Fokker E.II/E.III.

Re: Knights of the Sky WWI GB 9/29/2007 to 12/31/2008

Greetings all;

Thank you Frank & all for your continuing support.

I hate it when I screw up.  For instance with all the modifications and notes I make to myself here is a faux paux I could have avoided.  The forward vertical uppright  ( 22C ) that is supposed to hold the horizontal support for the forward end of the gun breeches should not go in as the instructions note if you extended the fuselage.

That veritcal support should go between the ammo box and the empty belt box.  So to fix this you have to cut off the guide block on the lower end of  22 C and add the rudder bar ( 14 C ) to that side.

Below I did not catch it until after I had added the photoetch C -yokes, turnbuckles and rigging wires.

 Note - the rudder bar is ok its just the vertical support bar is facing the wrong way.

Re: Knights of the Sky WWI GB 9/29/2007 to 12/31/2008

Luckily I had not installed it yet so I was able to use my sprue cutters and nip it off and turn the bend toward the front of the fuselage and all was right wi the world.

Now to the vertical support for the forwar end of the gun breeches.  While I nipped of the vertical support  (22 C ) I went ahead and nipped of the horizontal bar  and made it lay between the ammo box and the empty belt box.  Then I shortened its verticals and will add the PE for the forward gun flanges.

Here is a bit of fun on the top wing lozenge. No texturing yet.

Stephen,

So where would one need to go to find this thread by Lars Qvarfordt, or to find a way to contact him?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Stephen-

Bummer about that support, but it looks as if you have it sorted out now.  Those rudder cables/ends look very convincing- nicely done!  You wing is coming along beautifully as well.  Looking forward to seeing the texturing again. Thumbs Up [tup]

Stephen,

Once again you have my sincere appreciation! Bow [bow]  I happen to have a good supply of Humbrol paints, even though I mostly airbrush acrylics these days.  I have been inspired to do something different on this build though.  Thanks again!

Thanks Frank & Scotty. So many models so little time!

Agreed! Make a Toast [#toast]

After reading the pre-shading process described by Lars, I am going to need to start that portion of the build early, due to the drying time of enamels, and the difficulty that I have had in the past with masking acrylics.  I will see if I can get a start this week.  In looking through my paint stash (almost as bad, or good as it were, as my model stash) and found that I have the Gunze sail color in my collection.  After preshading with enamels, I may follow with the Gunze acrylic for my top coat on the upper wing surfaces.  Thanks again for the inspiration on this one. Thumbs Up [tup]

Here is the current state of the wings with rib tapes. This is the lower surface areas.

Note here the ailerons and lower wing "upper surfaces" are not textured  yet.

The edging tapes are next.

Stephen,

When I was doing some research onthe DH-2 the other day, I ran across the article on pre-shading by Lars that still had all of the photos in place.  I did the pre-shading or the past few days, and am preparing to start the build itself.  The masking technique was really time consuming, not to mention tape consuming.  I used up a roll of the thinest tape that I had (1/16 inch), and still had to carefully cut it in half.  Anyway, it looks acceptable to me, and I will start laying on the main colors soon, but will use acrylics instead of enamels.

Greetings Scotty;

While I am sure I don't have to tell you, for other neophytes following along.  Always test how much paint you will need on scrap sheet plastic.  This will insure you get a nice even coverage. More later.

Re: Knights of the Sky WWI GB 9/29/2007 to 12/31/2008

Heya Frank? I'm wondering if I could come back into this GB? I know alotta time has passed here where I haven't posted in the GB. But as a stroke of chance, I've got the same kit listed for th Weekend Warriors GB as I'd originally committed in this (albiet it was a different kit of the same type). Since I'm still listed here on the roster, would crossovers like this be permitted?

Since my circumstances are a little differnt, I figured I'd ask....Blush [:I]
