After market decals and resin question

When you want to go with after market decals... who are the companies you turn to?  I've heard of Bison recently but I am guessing there must be a host of others.

A while back surfing through some of the armor accessory websites, I came across a company that had resin muzzle breaks that where covered with the cloth sack and tied at the back to keep crud out of the barrel.  Anyone know who that was?

As long as we are on the subject I am curious how often kit decals are used instead going for the AM stuff.  I know in aircraft the AM usage is pretty high since the kit decals are usually not the great and there are dozens and dozens on 1 a/c.  I think the most I've put on a tnak has been 9.

Re: After market decals and resin question

wing_nut  I know that www.tankworkshop.com  makes some of the resin muzzle brake with covers on them.  At least for more common german tanks, like tiger i, king tiger, panther, mark iv.   Also I have used the echelon line of decals and was very happy with the results.  They have very little film outside of the marking and set well with decal setting solution.  My King tiger build used them and I was very happy with the result.  But I did use the kit decals that came with the kit (dragon) on my rammtiger build.  A little thicker but not to bad.

hope this helps

Re: After market decals and resin question

Aftermarket decals often depend on the subject matter. Some companies specialize in modern US, others in WW2 German or WW2 Allied. It is hard to stick to any one particular company.

I like Archer Fine Transfers http://www.archertransfers.com/ for modern and WW2 US. I also like Echelon Transfers http://pachome1.pacific.net.sg/~kriegsketten/ , but I helped in the gathering of information so I received free samples as thanks (after the fact). My opinion could be considered bias.

I've never tried transfers before.  Are there pros and cons using them?  How are they when applied over a rough surface and can they be sealed with a clear coat?

For rough surface (especially with zim surface), I suggest using water slide decal since they slide easily compare to rub in decal.

And for all decals, it is better to gloss the surface first to have better grab.

If you use archer (or any other rub on) and want water slide, archer makes a sheet that will turn rub on into water slide but it has no clear platic top like a decal.

For things like US stars on rough surface this is great and leaves no raised surface like a decal. After applying, you can seal with a flat coat like MM Flat.

My opinion...this is the way to go

Bison, Echelon, and Archer are the "known" names in the decal market for Armor but there are other "niche" suppliers out there as well depending on what you're after.

As far as the resin muzzle brakes, Voyager includes this in some of their sets as well.

Moose, you must have read my mind. I been trying to figure out how to put a cover on my Tiger i muzzle. After seeing this i did a bit a searching and found a site in the UK that sells them. Thanks
