J-hulk I get it airmail to New Zealand and its still cheaper than buying from the model shops and 2 months earlier, the January issue arrived about a week ago, give or take a day. Japan has some wonderful model magazines, well they did when I was travelling regularly several years ago but the price !!! Even if you couldn't read japanese the pictures and diagrams were excellent.

J-hulk, I live in Portugal and i´ve subscribed the FSM to come in their regular surface mail and it works great. i´ve recieved the january issue last week!
it´s not much more expensive than the us subscription!

I think this issue was pretty good. I liked the Cessna built by Warren Araki. It is neat to see civillian aircraft used for military purposes. It was very nicely done. The workbench reviews just blow me away though. They have so little time to work on them and turn out ten to a hundred times better than me taking a year to do mine. Mind boggling. I can't wait until the January issue. Building the tv Batmobile is going to be interesting not to mention the 1/16 scale Tiger. Ohhhh, yah!

I had just bought the Wright Flyer kit so I was excited. The Blackbird was my second model so I have a soft spot for it. The rattle can articale was great since I've got a can of gloss red giving me a headache, and not just from the fumes. Big Smile [:D]

Weeell, I do have a subscription back in the States, and dear ol' Mom mails 'em over when she remembers...and I'm very grateful!
The LHSs do carry FSM, but it's about $15 USD per issue, so I just wait. I inquired about overseas shipping of subscriptions, but that was very expensive, too.

We do get SteelMasters and Militaria, but those go for like $30 USD, so I mostly just peruse in the store! Wink [;)]

HEY,
I have to say that the rattle can article was the most helpful and useful. I know that there is a lot of people who use them, me included, and i am sure that helped alot. I also have to say that on pg.48, the Tanker converted from an A-6 Intruder is a very realistic model. I have always liked that model but have not been able to find one.

I thought Faith's Bedford was supberb and would like more photos there is so much detail , very well done with such a simple diaroma. The Wright Flyer has enthused me to look for the kit and try it myself (after 200 odd race/rally car models maybe time for a change?) but the Blackbird was the pick of the issue for me. This plane has always been a favourite of mine. The conversion didn't look too difficult but would enable skills to be tested and expanded. The different silver/grey shading on the fuselage and wings helps develop masking and airbrushing. I think I'll have to also add it to the list and make a concerted effort to try another field. I have the Williams FW24 kit ordered but the workbench review didn't offer any new insights for me as I've read a lot of other reviewers comments bur Mark Melchiore did reinforce the need for testing fitting and assembly care. It really is a fabulous kit and Tamiya again raises the benchmark.

All in all another great issue and dare I mention it I still haven't read it from cover to cover and already the January issue has arrived!

That Curtiss Helldiver in the gallery was pretty sweet considering it was completely scratchbuilt. Paul Boyer did a beautiful job with the A-12 model.

This is a magazine based forum, so I think its appropriate to start a new topic for every new issue that comes out. We can keep our comments and chit chatting about it in one place. Ill start with my comments about the December issue.

Think of this like a coffee shop thread. Like we are all sitting around a coffee table having a chat about the new issue that came out. Everyone feel free to pitch in.

1. I really enjoyed the Wright Flyer build. The builder took his time and took lots of nice photographs. I really enjoy watching it go together slowly. I hate it when (as in the Sherman model in this issue) they say "Step 5. Paint." I just sit there scratching my head!

2. Brian Penny did an awesome job on the Sherman.

3. Tom Faith's Bedford Gun Carrier was breath taking. The details were insane.

4. Rattle Can Results: What a brilliant article. I think Im going to purchase a few colors in a can just to keep around.

5. Page 48. That motorcycle is gorgeous. I have never seen a vintage motorcycle done like that.

6. Randy Dieck front and center! I really want to talk to this guy about how he did his SH-60B Seahawk (Page 68, Workbench Review). The paint job on it is about perfect. Its shaded.. weathered... the colors.. scaled.. its absolutely stunning. It is hands down the best sea gray chopper model I have seen. Is there any way I can get a step by step or send him an email? I am very impressed with this model.

7. Page 70. Something about the Felixstowe model just intrigues me. I might have to give that a spin.
