I think one big problem is storage expense.  Storing all the text from the forums is one thing.  I would bet that the total storage of all the photos appearing in these forums (remember, these messages do not disappear after a given period of time- posts from five- ten years ago are still there- adds up to a whopping big amount.  Kalmbach is no giant corporation like GM or Microsoft.  The magazine business is no gold mine these days.  Several hobby magazines I have subscribed to in the past have gone belly up in the last five years or so.  I'm happy to have the magazine and this forum.  I'll cut them a lot of slack on not spending the funds for a giant storage facility.

Say Stik and Fermis, thanks for mentioning the App. I just loaded it to my Ipad, and it works. For a long time I wished that I could use my IPad for posting, but for reasons too long to explain, I was unable to. This looks like it will work. They still have annoying advertisements but at least they are not getting in the way like they do on my PC.  Yes

I will say this- last week I got a new phone, an recent iPhone. It has a camera that does fantastic close up photos. I also added the Photobucket App onto my phone so uploading is super easy. And now posting photos using my phone is quicker than using the desktop or laptop...

I had the app on my old phone...it would only upload to my "bucket"...then I'd have to move then to the proper "album" using my pc. Still, much more convenient then pulling the SD card from the camera, uploading to PC, then uploading to P/B. Anyway, got a new phone, got the app, and now I can upload directly to the proper album..very convenient!

P/B does seem to keep getting worse...especially with the pop-up and drop down ads. It was bad enough when just the side bar ads bogged things down. Now, I get three "pop-ups" every time I get on there, that I have to close out, plus the side bar ad continueing to bog things down. About 1 in 10 times, my system freezes up, due to the ads.

This question is somewhat timely. Photobucket just came out of a serious outage. People could not access photos for about two days, if the story is correct. There are a bunch of people that use their service for business, as paid subscribers even, and it affected their business traffic. I noticed that all the images on my WIP had been reduced to dead links. As of this morning they seem to be back and running.

I don't find the process of posting images particularly difficult, but what is somewhat annoying to me are popups that seem designed to take you where you don't want to go, preventing your work flow. If I try closing them, I get routed to another popup page. It is very annoying, and at times, it has even locked up the site for me. I have found a work around, which I won't post here. God forbid that they find out, then "fix"... my fix.

Anyway, I'm not paying for it and I am willing, I guess, to put up with some of this. Although, I feel, I shouldn't have to.

If the original poster would like some help with this, feel free to PM me.

Good luck.

I would like to pint out that FSM is not unigue in this. All the forums i have been on require you to use a Hosting site. A lot of people seem to imply that its justFSM that does this. And i don't find the process of posting photo's any harder here than anywhere else.

But this idea hasbeen mentioned several times and i think the reason is because of the amount oif space it would need and the risk of viruses, thats at least my understanding.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

More user-friendly photo uploader for threads

Not sure if this has been brought up in the past, but has FSM or the parent company considered facilitating a more user-friendly photo uploading programming? It has been one of the the more difficult things to figure out how to do, and coincidently I have not uploaded any pictures of my builds because of that fact. The obligation to have to utilize a third party website in order to post pictures in the forum, in my opinion, is unnecessarily laborous. Why not have a proprietary uploader that allows them to be uploaded directly into your profile, much like other social media sites? If anyone has any ideas to make uploading easier, please let me know.
