I agree with the math behind it, BUT, that calculation doesnt take into accout the feel that the current issue is substantially thinner than months past, with no reduction in costs.  I have not done any checks to confirm the new issues are getting lighter as of yet, but I want to take a look when I get home from work, comparing the current issue to a few months, a few years, and a few decades ago....

Well I can't say one way or another comparing current issues page numbers or weights, etc. to past ones, as it's been awhile since I bought one. But... even if the publishers spread out the same amount of pages & articles over 12 issues instead of 10, so that no extra materials were involved in that manner, there still would be extra costs of postage to subscribers and shipping to retail outlets for those two extra editions annually to be covered... usually by the consumer.

Just a thought, but 2 more issues is 20% more than the current amount of issues printed annually, 12 as opposed to 10. Now it goes to reason that a subscription cost would go up 20% as well to offset the costs of those extra issues. Would the majority of subscribers be willing to pay 20% more for those two extra issues? If not, and FSM loses subscribers, that would not be a good thing for the future of the magazine.

At $40 bucks a month, and each issue seemingly thinner than the last, I ould like to see my dollar stretched a little further...

I dont really stick with any one genre, so I really wouldnt mind learning more about automotive modeling!  It would ass to the mystique that is 'Ryans' Random Modelwerks' on facebook!

Would be nice to see, even if the price went up a little.

Even if they did, they wouldn't give anything away for free, you would probably see the cost of your subscription go up.But if they have the articles it would make sense to try to recoup the lost auto subscribers.

Not being in the know of print costs, I think it sounds like a good idea. Kinda get the best of both major genre without really upsetting to many people. I for one would like my subscription to cover 12 issues for the 12mo. I also fully understand that my subscription clearly states 10 issues for said price so please don't pound me moderators.

we're modelers it's what we do

You can fill the gap with auto-heavy issues that make up for the loss of SA. It's something to consider and I don't think any of us would mind seeing FSM arrive on a monthly basis!
