Mrchntmarine

forgot to mention i think, for some reason i also started to get these emails too...

That's your digital copy.  Remember the announcement that Kalmbach was reducing the number of hard copies of FSM, and providing several digital issues.  That's what that email is for.

from the main page i go to "About Us" then under "The Magazine" I click "Digital", and i get a page to subscribe to the magazine....

Thing is, I ALREADY have a print + digital subscription.  I dont even see where you get a choice to look at digital editions.

I have this past couple of months started getting emails from Zino puplishing though and cant get those to stop....

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

Yeah, browser versions, and versions of other software, can be a factor, too.

With the latest release of Firefox, for example, the browser doesn't handle mixed security content the way it did previously.  I listen to the radio through my laptop, and some of the stations use an online media player website.  It's always had mixed security content, usually the ads linked on the page.  Previous versions of the browser allowed me to mark that page as trusted, and the setting was saved.  With this new release, that setting is no longer saved.  I have to set it each time I go to listen, during my current browser session.

That's not a big deal, but it illustrates how a change in something like the browser can cause an issue.  I work for a company that develops software, and it's something we have to watch-both from our side, that our applications work with the latest browsers, and from the browser side, that new releases don't "break" our apps.

I too have to log in again even if I'm logged in the forum, and the problem I was having up until yesterday was that after I put in my log in credentials, the log on page would just refreash and repeat and never log me in.  I tried both Chrome and Edge and cleared my catch and nothing.  I did do a update on my firewall the day before, so my intuition is that maybe it had something to do with it.  I now have full access.

My latest renewal states I have both print and digital for the same price. Guess I'll have to see if I can get into it

I found I just have to log in again, to access the digital content.  Same credentials as for the forum.

Yeah, I get the same message on review articles, too.  I do think there may be a separate subscription for the online content, or an additional charge to add to our existing subscriptions, perhaps.

Hi Baron,

Yeah, even when I'm logged into the FSM website, when I click to open review articles for example, I just see a box that says "Full text of this article is availble to FSM subscribers only"

Perhaps there is an extra charge for accessing the digital content, even though I already subscribe.

Regards,

The Paterfamilius

IIRC there used to be an additional charge to get the digital along with the hard copy, but that was a couple years back.

I've always elected to recieve the paper magazine and declined on the digital edition.  But every once in a while I would like to actually read one of the FSM website articles.  But it's frustrating: No matter how many times I log in to the website or go verify my subscription, I am never able to access the subsriber-only articles on the FSM website.  Am I the only one who experiences this problem?

PF, do you mean that you go to the current issue page, and click the links for the articles, nothing happens?

I tried to duplicate what you described, by going to About Us on the menu ribbon above, then under The Magazine, I clicked Current Issue.  That loaded a page with a list of articles and a large picture/thumbnail.  Intuitively, I thought that clicking these would load the articles.  Nothing apparent happened, but I checked the console (click F12 to see it) and noted that several errors were recorded in the background:

I'm familiar with that tool, because I use it to collect info in my job-testing software for bugs.

I don't know if those errors are related to this problem or not, but they're errors and probably shouldn't occur, either way.

Also, I have a subscription to the magazine, as you do.  I don't know if that gives us access to the articles here or not.  If it does, then there does appear to be an issue.  If there is a separate subscription necessary to access this content, then that's a different issue.

I really don't know more, because I never tried before to access any content online, outside of the forum.
