Copying text from Word
Posted by Mopar Madness on Friday, August 28, 2015 10:15 PM

I'm experiencing a new problem that I've never encountered when posting a new discussion.  Normally, I type my thoughts in Word, then I copy and paste the text from Word into my newly created discussion.  Next, I review my post using Preview Post, then I submit.  This evening, when I copy and paste from Word, the text doesn't show up in the Preview Post window.  I can copy Photobucket IMG links and the pictures show up just fine.  When I manually type text into the editor, as I'm doing now, then review the post, the text I've typed shows up.  This only happens when I copy and paste from Word.  I have a WIP that I've typed in Word that I'd like to post.  I can certainly retype it if needed but I'd like to resolve the issue for future posts.

Btw...I've adjusted my compatibility view settings to no avail.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

Chad

What version of Word or MS Office Suite do you have installed?  I recently upgraded to Win7 Service Pack 1, with MS Office Suite 2010 (it's my work machine).  I noticed that the cut-and-paste function didn't work as expected anymore.  Previously, when I would copy anything, whether it be text or images, I could then open a target app, like a text field in a forum in a browser, or another document, an email, and so on, click Paste (or Ctrl-V) and nothing was pasted.  I found that I had to have the target app open first, and then I could copy and paste.

So, I could no longer copy something, then open a new Word doc and paste the content.  I had to open the new Word doc first, then copy the content and then it would paste from the clipboard.

I did some searching online and found that this is a known issue with the newer release of Windows.

So, are you following that sequence?  That is, are you typing your text in the other editor, and then coming in to the forum and clicking to start a reply or a new thread (either is a new text post)?  Or have you tried clicking in the forum to open the text editor, and then copy the content you want to paste it?

Currently I'm using 2010.  But, I was copying then opening the target app.  I'll have to give your suggestion a try this evening.  Thank you very much for your help!!

Sure thing, you're very welcome, I hope it solved the problem for you.

I just had it happen again this morning, because it's so easy to forget.  In one case, I took a screenshot of an issue one of my customers is having, opened Paint, clicked Ctrl-V and got a little black dot.  In another one, I copied a URL, opened a browser, went to paste the URL in the address field, and got nothing.  It's easy to forget, because I'm so used to cutting and pasting.
