The photo posting problem
Posted by Don Stauffer on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 9:10 AM

I thought I had finally solved my photo hosting/posting problems with Google Photo.  But it seems that only about half the viewers can see my photos, half cannot.  I have had a lot of problems with other alternatives to PB that others have success with.

I think FSM staff should consider an effort to investigate photo hosting sites to find ones that play nice with FSM's forum software, and are free and user friendly.  They should then post info on the forum here, along with instructions on using the best one or ones that they come up with.

They no doubt are getting deluged with offers from services. But no ads/ no endorsement/ free. I don't think that's possible.

Postimage.org is what I'm using now. It's quite simple to learn, set up, and use. No problems seeing my photos here or on other sites.

I use a web hosting Co called WEEBLY.com to host my pics and my club website, The East Mids Model Club.

I've looked up some of my old posts & my pics are still all there, so the PB problem hasn't err affected any of my pics.

Relatively simple to setup, & remains free for use, the paid for version does give you more options & much larger MB capacity.

I then use MS Windows Photo Gallery 2012 (in Win 7) to resize the pics to 1024x768, helps with speed & band-width.
You do have to copy your photos to your 'My Pics' folder, (eg, use MyPics/Jan/etc., or projects folders as appropriate),  & I then create a folder within that (eg, Jan/Jan-web) for the 1024x768 sized pics.

Weebly allows you to upload whole folders at once & create pages with lots of photos, or a rotating display.

You can link to err... Folder Links

or Directly to Pics, as below.

Office Body Albion

WiP Maus

I did err.. run out of room, after over a year with pics 2-5MB size, but keeping the pics to 1024x768 freed up a lot of wasted space.

This solution works for me, and my club website, here in the UK.

As ever, there are other vendors/your milage may vary/close cover before striking/Caveat Emptor/don't sue the Lawyers got everything/:-)

Don,

We are working on figuring out a recommended hosting site, but it's taking time to figure out the best process.

When you look at any of your images, directly underneath then are three icons in blue: two opposite direction circular arrows, then a <, click on that icon and a sub menu will appear.

The sub menu will have several codes listed. i use the "direct link" code and click on the clipboard icon to the right of that code to copy the link. Then I paste that link here in the same manner as with the old PB codes to post images.

Neither am I... which is one reason I really like this site as it is simple enough for me quickly learn...

okay, next option, if you click on the image itself, once that image is your page, above the image are a series of icons, with the leftmost being "<" and titled "share". Click on the share icon and the same sub menu should appear.

I have tried two new sites lately.  First was Google Photo.  Uploads went fast, and I could see pics in my own posts.  Many others could.  But a number of folks could not.

Then I tried postimage.  Same thing- I could subsequently see the pics in my posts, many others could also, but some still could not.

The simplest solution is usually best. In this case FSM should put some time and energy into making it possible for members/contributors to post images directly from their own personal files, without having to muck around with the extra hoop-jumping required by the use of Flickr, Imgur, Google Pics, or whatever.

I fear it would not be that simple (read cost prohibitive). Besides some of us are still waiting for that new-fangled spell check for our posts, so we don’t have to write ‘em in Word and then paste ‘em here.
