Buy/sell forum?

"Vet" is to to appraise, verify, or check for accuracy, authenticity, validity, etc.: An expert vetted the manuscript before publication.

When someone pays FSM for advertising, there is only a select number who can afford to pay the costs. That allows FSM the time and effort to be able to insure that the vendor is of a certain standard.

There are currently 41151 members of the forum, this becomes an impossible amount of people to "vet".

My last emailed FSM newsletter included a link to Swapey, which I will presume means that they have accepted payment from, and checked for accuracy of that website. Given that presumption, I suggest you check them out at http://swapey.com/index.aspx.

Okay, now that is more clear....it boils down to "If the deal goes bad, from an ad in the magazine, there is legal recourse for the victim, and you take care of that, where as if it was on here there won't be that recourse."

Question....Why would you, FSM, not be able to intervene if it was on the site?

There are multiple reasons we don't allow buying, selling, and trading on the Forum.

For one, we want to keep the Forum focused on positive hobby conversation – we wouldn't want the Forum to be overwhelmed by transactions, nor would we want to be responsible for said transactions.

Also, when it comes to the magazine, e-newsletter, and Web site, we vet our advertisers and hold them to a high standard. So, when you purchase a product from an FSM ad, you can expect a smooth, honest transacton. If, for some reason, you're justifiably unsatisfied with a purchase from an FSM advertiser, you can contact us and we'll intervene on your behalf. For us, it's of utmost importance that readers have satisfying transactions with our advertisers.

Now, let's say we did allow buying, selling, and trading on the Forum. And let's say you were involved in an unsatisying transaction or were flat-out scammed. We, FineScale, woud not be able to intervene on your behalf. 

All this is a long way of saying we want to keep the Forum positive, and we want to avoid any practices that could yield negative experiences for our Forum users.

Why isn't is allowed? (Please be honest, not 'PC'.)

Is it just a matter of " We will not allow you to post here for the purposes of trading/buying/selling free of charge, we want you to pay us."

In all truthfulness, why would I pay for an ad to sell one or two models? I would have to charge for what I want for the model, cover the shipping, and cover the cost of the advertisement, and that could create a cost that many might not want to pay. Let's look at just trading one with another, where no monetary profit is gained by either party.

It's a strech, but I can kinda sorta see the selling/buying part, but the trading part I don't get, the only real 'big' thing that baffles me about this site.

The reason you cannot find a thread about buying, selling, and trading is because it's not allowed on the Forum. Here's the official line:

Advertisements. If you would like to advertise a product that your commercial company manufactures, or if you are an individual private seller, you can buy a classified ad in the magazine or an ad on the Web site. This includes all buying, selling, and trading. Any posts that appear to be an advertisement or transaction will be deleted.
