No problem, Kelly.

Unfortunately, the BBcode tags are not the same for all BBcode forums, so its nice to have the most common ones for FSM in a chart, as you can't just look them up online.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Rich,

For about a month and a half, I was unable to post any smileys, so I learned the codes for them...

A Smile [:)] is ':)'

A Wink [;)] is ';)'

A Evil [}:)] is '}:)'

A Big Smile [:D] is ':D'

A Party [party] is merely 'party'

A Bow [bow] is merely 'bow'

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] is merely '#ditto'

ASign - Welcome [#welcome] is merely '#welcome'

A My 2 cents [2c] is merely '2c'

A Mischief [:-,] is merely ':-,'

A web link is made by putting 'link' before the link's address, pasting the address, then putting '/link' after the address

An image can be posted by putting 'img' before the image's address, pasting the address, then putting '/img' after the address

All these are called tags, do not have the apostrophes, and are surrounded by open and closed brackets, e.g. [tag]

HTH!

If you need more help, let me know.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Rich,

No, you're definitely not doing anything wrong. The FSM staff uses Macs as well; in order to see the Forum's editing tools, we use Firefox.

Ah, OK. That actually makes me feel better Big Smile [:D]. I thought I was doing something wrong...

A question if I may - how did you develope your "cheat sheet"? Many thanks,

Rich Cool [8D]

Hi Rich,

It is a javascript error, or more precisely, 316 java script errors.  The software this forum uses is (poorly) coded in an internet explorer standard.  This means that other web browsers will have major problems with it, as the software does not 'play well with others'.  Firefox has a few problems, though none are nearly as noticeable as what you're experiencing.

I use Opera, which has different masking and identification options which you can use to make your web browser look like IE to poorly coded websites.  However, even with this, up until the latest release of Opera I was experiencing exactly what you are.  What I ended up doing was making a cheat sheet of sorts for Opera.  I made a list of the smileys and basic BBcode tags and use them as a reference.  You can have all the functionality of the javascript editing bar, with none of the heartache.

Update Safari as often as you can, and maybe they will make their code more resilient and better at parsing bad web page coding.  I really wouldn't hold your breath for the forum software to get fixed. Also, FYI, its not just FSM, but every forum built on this software framework.

HTH!

Cheers,
Alex

Question about using Safari to access the website.
Posted by RichardI on Monday, September 22, 2008 4:54 PM
I have a Mac computer at home running OSX 10.5.5 and I use Safari as my web browser. I have found that on this website there is no editing bar at the top of the page when I reply to or post threads. I have no smilies available and no text editing abilities. I have checked my Profile page and everything there seems to be turned on. Anyone else with a Mac having this issue? I use a Windows computer at work and I have the exact same settings and it works perfectly. Any ideas?

Thanks, Rich
