I seem to have found something that seems to be working reliably. I go to Photobucket. I click on the small picture to bring up the larger image, then right click. I then select "copy image location."  I then return to the FSM forum I am posting in, start the post, then select the film strip icon. I paste the image location in the proper window in the popup that results from clicking on the film strip.  That seems to work pretty well.

Hate it when PB does the "upgrades"... But I ignore the the link codes at the bottom anyway.. If you want fool-proof, Just open your picture and right-click on it.  Then left-click on "Properties", highlight & copy the URL, then paste the code into the film-strip icon here, or directly onto the reply field.  The reason for opening the picture is that If you don't open it, you'll be inserting the thumbnail photo (which I do for avatars sometimes)...

That'll do it! Direct link makes the "most" sense by name, but not by action!!

So long folks!

I wish Photobucket would stop "improving" their website. It used to be so much easier to capture the IMG code than it is now.

Don, if you look at the picture above, it shows the list of codes when you hold the mouse cursor on the image. Right now, PB has those turned off, until you "mouse over" the image. If you click on the "Link Options" at the lower right, you can change that setting so that these codes always appear. Just Ctrl-C the IMG tag to copy it, and paste that into the message. No typing required.

Or you can click on the image and those codes will appear on the left side of the screen. Merely selecting the IMG code with "auto-copy" it to your clipboard for pasting into the forum.

I never use the link media button as it adds unnecessary steps.

Ahh! I had been using the direct link code!

Don

If you go back to your thread in ships, you'll see that I posted the pic from your photobucket account and walked you through the steps to do it.  As Bill says, the key is to use the IMG code.  Just copy and paste right into your post.

I know that some people use that little film icon, but I find it to be a bit fiddly.  To me, using the IMG code is far simpler.

I had originally been trying to type in the IMG tag, but had the same problem.  Sometimes the actual image appeared in the message, sometimes just the link.  So that is when I started using the film strip icon.  It now appears I have the same problem.  No consistency- what works one day doesn't work the next, using either method :-(

You need to use the filmstrip icon (Insert Media) in the toolbar above the text box. A separate window will open where you can paste in the DIRECT LINK and select whether the item opens on the same tab or a separate one.

Just pasting the link here in the text block will definitely appear, but no image. To make the link work, you'll need to use the Insert Link (chain icon) and paste the same info on the separate window that opens for that as well.

Still image posting problems
Posted by Don Stauffer on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 9:14 AM

Okay, I opened a photobucket site.  My first attempt worked like a charm. I posted a picture there. I then went to the picture, and highlighted my browser address window with the URL of the picture showing. I hit control-C to copy that URL, went back here, started a message, hit the media icon, and in the popup window pasted the URL in the location spot.  That worked fine.

Yesterday started a real message, posted another pic (in ships forum), repeated the exact same procedure, but this time instead of an image showing up, a LINK appeared in the message.  Now, folks could go to the link, so the message basically worked.

However, I know I can get a real image to show in the message (it did the first time).  What am I doing wrong?
