Welcome to the forums Joe and welcome back to the hobby!

I use a Paasche VL airbrush but after long sessions, it isn't very comfortable and I find my hand will cramp a little bit, especially when doing tedious detail work. I have used, only for brief moments though, the Grex airbrush. It is build with a pistol-like grip and trigger assembly rather than the pencil style of air brush that I use. The grip allows for a more relaxed feel but it is something that I think would take me a while to get used to.

As far as a compressor is concerned, I use the D500SR from Paasche that I purchased as part of a package deal online. Its small, 1/8 HP, and is fairly quiet....won't wake the dead in other words. It does get pretty hot after some use though, so be careful there. Mine isn't fitted with a moisture trap, but I would highly recommend it.

I'm certainly no expert, and am not experienced with other airbrushes. The ones I've listed are the only two I've ever used. Others here may give you more insight!

Again, welcome back!

Jon

Airbrush question
Posted by JoeK on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 2:33 PM

Hello all,

I apologize beforehand if this topic has been discussed before - I did not search the forums.

I have returned to modeling after a 20 year or so hiatus. Having always used a brush to paint my models I have recently been eager to give the air brush a go but have been reluctant to take that last step. I think that feedback on these last 2 concerns will put me at ease and allow me to take that last step..

This may sound silly, but I have large hands and I am looking for something that I can work with comfortably. I want my focus to be on the painting, not the cramp in my hand. Any recommendations on a air brush that is large hand friendly?

Secondly, the majority of my modeling time comes after the wife and child are in bed. Although I do have a compressor already, it is loud enough to wake the dead. Any suggestions on a very quiet (if that is possible) air compressor?

Thanks for your suggestions

Joe
