Log off / log in issues
Posted by Mrchntmarine on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 8:12 AM

so yesterday, like others, I was unable to get logged out. I cleared cache and cookies and it worked, got logged out. Well, this am I was unable to get logged in...  With either safari or Firefox on iPad. Tried a couple of times , no good, UNTIL - I checked the "keep me logged in box" on the sign in page. I'm now in, but don't like staying in / on....  FYI.

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

I'm unable to log-on also on my main computer.  I'm on my tablet at the moment.  Last night I was unable to log-on with Firefox, so I used Opera. Now Opera is unable to log-on.  I clear all my cookies on log-out, so clearing the cache doesn't work.  Wonder what's going on?

Gary

PS> Mrchntmarine gave me a hint, and I clicked the "stay logged in" box and was able to log-in with Firefox.  Still, that will go away when I log out and the cookies are cleared.  This forum...  Sad

Hi everyone, So, I see that we're having some issues with both logging in and out on the FSM Forum. Just to let everyone know, we are definitely aware of the difficulties this is causing and we're looking into it. We think we know the cause, and, now, we're working toward a permanent solution. I know it's frustrating, but we are working the situation and will let you know when a fix is in place just as soon as we can. Regards, Tim

FYI - I was just able to log in then log out normally. I then logged back in to make this post, no issues encountered as of yet.

Edit-

Windows 10, Firefox 79. Both are current and up to date

Hey Tim - tks much for the update.  As a follow up - i just tried to log in and all i got was the log in screen after entering my credentials and hitting enter.  As mentioned, I had to then try again and leave the keep me logged in box checked and i got it - but i prefer not to stay logged in.  Wm

Safari, Catalina - mac.

Keep on modeling!

I ran into this again just now, on my company's laptop.  I followed my bookmark to the forum and saw that I needed to log in.  Choose Login, enter my username and password, and no login.  I was logged in on that same machine over lunch.  Happened in both Chrome and Firefox.  Clearing the browser cache, including cookies and login info, did not resolve it.

I'm logged in now on my personal machine, successfully.

Annnnnnnnnnd-it's working today, from this machine.  Though it took a long time for the login page to close and the forum index page to load, than it usually does.

Weird, wild stuff!

The logout issue appears to have returned again. Deleting site cookies signs me out, same as before

I don't understand why logging out is such a big concern,I check the leave me logged on box when I logged on a long time ago,so all I do is bring up the site and bang i'm on,no delays.I never log off.

The inability to log out normally is an indication that the forum is not functioning properly. The SA forum also has the same issue, and both forums share similar software so it's a common problem. My intention was to hopefully bring it to someones attention in order to inform the techs working on the issue so it can be corrected. It's been ongoing for quite sometime now and I would imagine it's quite frustrating for them as well.

Generally it's a good practice to log out of websites, security-wise.  But the issue isn't with logging out.  The issue is exiting the forum-not logging out, but just navigating away and closing the browser session, and then returning later, a day later, say, with a different browser session, and getting challenged to log in, despite not having logged out before.  And the login process fails.  It's a problem with the forum.

still busted - when i log in, its says im not logged in until i click a next page to go to.  Then it shows as logged in.  When i log out, it keeps me logged in.  I have to close the window/tab then next time i will have to log in again.  But it will only log me in if i choose "stay logged in" option.....

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

Why do we have to log in twice on Safari?  Once on the main page and then again in Forums.

Why doesnt the 2 time log in work on Firefox - See attached.  Ive cleared cookies, etc and cant use firefox.

Why isnt FSM site "secure"?

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

As with some of the other bugs that crop up, they appear to affect some and not all. In the end, the Forum is old and has undergone many patches since the last full update. One of my goals is an update of not only the Forum but the entire FSM website. In the meantime, we'll continue to stomp the bugs, but it's about triage and time.

I am also having login issues. I went to fincescale.com/code and tried to log in to redeem my code. I then cleared cache, cookies, history, and reset password for FSM and tried again. Was able to bring up my account at the main site finescale.com, but when I went to finescale.com/code, unsuccessful to login under the code redemption item.
