New look
Posted by Bish on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 10:02 AM

Ok, now that was a shock. I wasn't expecting such a big change in apperance. I won't comment on that as it's to easy to say i don't like it just because its new. But there are a few things that i can't work out if they are meant to be a part of the change ornot.

Your discussions link only take you to the threads you have started not all those you have commented on.

I can't seem to edit my profile.

Images are not showing up in the sig.

You can't jump straight to the last page in a thread.

My Subscriber only content is locked, it says i have to click to subscribe, but i already have a subscription.

Thats the issues i have come across. I dolike a couple of the new features that i have come across, such as how to reply. That migth simplify things a bit.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

It's so... white! LOL! I guess some changes are in order, and will wait to see if this is it or if the forum has yet to reach its final form. :)

Wow! Talk about a change. I only have one suggestion. It needs color. Better yet, it needs more rust!!! Big letters? Meh - it could be toned down a tad more. But by God people, at least give the site some color and pizzazz!

I like it. The green was horrible. Easy to read. Going to keep my wife awake though, may have to move the monitor.

Only comment so far- there used to be a "string" menu at the bottom of each thread page, so you could exit to whatever branches you'd been through back up the line. Can't find it, means you have to scroll back up to the top. Kind of a chore.

GMorrison,

I'm seeing the string at the top of my Forum pageds. It's small, but present. Are you not seeing it above the title?

Somehow reminds me of a forum with more pork shoulders and sodium, but that's OK.

So far I am liking the new look.

I am a bit surprised that I did not notice the number of forum members on-line unlike the previous incarnation.

I presume this software version is rated to play well with Windows 10 as I may end up adding that version as a dual boot 64 bit setup next month.

I like the clean look. Black on white is very easy on the eyes.

I do at the top. It also used to be at the bottom. Without it, need to scroll back up to the top. It's a really minor quibble. Really curious to see how the Windows toolbar comes into play.

Very bright indeed... At least we can see where is poster is from again, so when they ask for help, we are not sending them to a store or not recommending a product not found in their country...

No, the site is fully responsive. I'm looking at it on my iPhone now.

How can we get to the most recent message on any thread without going to the thread first and then having to hit the last page?

I like the black on white; however, using Google Chrome, the website looks "funky"!  The font is hard to read on the threads, and when you use a "quote", the text on my screen appears so small its hard to read.  It appears kind of pixelated.

Hi Bish,

Talked to the online staff. "Your Discussions" is set up the same as all of our other communities. It looks like it's built to only display threads a user has started, not the replies. They're going to se if they can update it to pull replies.

I've been able to edit my profile, so this may have been a glitch just as the site was getting up and running. Same thing for images in the sig lines.

Threads have a sort order at the top to allow you to decide what order to view the thread in. Oldest first or newest first. Just swap the tabs.

We haven't been able to replicate your experience wth subscriber content. Are you still having the problem?

The tabs at the top of the page allow you to see the thread from oldest to newest or newest to oldest.

Pretty slick!  So far, easier on the eyes, than the look of the old version.

Might have to resize my signature and group build badge, though, heh.

No. We're going for a more streamlined, cleaner look. This has been a point of contention in the past, but we decided that post count isn't a measure of quality, just quantity. So, we've left them off.

Except for testing, I exclusively use Chrome and it looks OK for me. You may have to adjust your view settings if it's giving you difficulties.

Looks like we may need to adjust the resolution of our avatars, maybe upload modified copies of the images.

Not a complaint, just an observation.  The new look is pretty cool.

The oldest first/ newest first thing I like. Members (ahemEmbarrassed) have a tendency to start a thread with really long posts and lots of pics. Sometimes that makes it a chore (used to be) to get to the newest posts. OK with that. Miss my stars...

this is going to take a bit of getting used to as i am not a fan of lots of white. i don't mind it in the text bodies, as others have said it is nice to read, but some neutral color background outside of the text areas would tone things down for me.

first time i looked my huge badge picture was half off the screen but that seems better now. I WAS WRONG IT IS STILL CUT OFF ON THE RIGHT SIDE SOMETIMES AS ARE THE BUTTONS AT THE BOTTOM. and now it's fine after going into edit this. maybe it only happens when i first start the forums.

i can't remember if autospell check (i am using Google Chrome) worked in the old layout or not.

i don't see a place to search the forums. i have found that helpful when looking foir info on an older model.

a while back we had an issue with clicking on a posted photot and going out to the PHOTOBUCKET page and from there being able to get into the poster's entire photobucket library. Aaron said remove some of the html text which i have bneen doing. checked today and with the suggested text removed i can still get into my entire library meaning so could anyone else.i will keep playing with this UPDATE: when i click on one of my photos itgoes to photobucket and i can get into my library. i tried someone else's photo, it goes to his page in photobucket with that picture BUT when i click on library it goes to MY library so that doesn't seem to be an issue

i do like the reply going automatically to the html response. the post preview is nicer. the add a quote is clearer as is the edit with the text button rather than an icon. on to the rest of the site.

Regarding the forum background colour:

I try to be optimistic about it.

Does the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page serve as a search box for the forum?

AKKK!

Are those rating stars at the top of each thread? To be voted on by readers? I recall we had something like that two versions ago.

If so, I definitely would consider not doing that. IIRC it became a backdoor weapon in flame wars and served no purpose.

The mobile version appears no different on my phone... But that makes for some difficult reading on posts with quotes...
