Greg stikpusher They used to have it here. It had a life ring icon. Eliminated during one of the forum “upgrades”. Saddens me to hear that.

Just like the spell check that used to be here... useful and helpful tools that were eliminated.

Greg JohnnyK On the ARC Air forum, or the Brittmodeller forum (I forgot which one) you can start a post, logout out, and return to your unfinished post the next time that you log on. Wow, that would be a nice feature.

What’s up is this site. It has issues. Period. And the powers that be here, ignore our repeated efforts to have the tech issues corrected. We get a reply occasionally, but no fixes.
PS: It has also happened to me where I am in the middle of post and something funky happens with FSM site. This causes the connection to be lost and that wipes out everything I was working on. That has happened at least three times. Hence, why I now back things up as I go by pasting the work into Word.
It shouldn't be this difficult.
Tanker - Builder You are on the spot ! ! I just finished doing an article on saws .It was about seven paragraphs long . When done I hit Post . Guess What ! Got the error sigil and the whole post was just wiped out ! I really don't like re-writing stuff in depth . What's up !!!!! T.B.

The only solution that works for me is to type the post in the FSM interface and periodically copy the work into Word. Before I hit submit I make sure I have all the paragraphs copied into Word. If needs be I can copy it from Word and it seems to keep the correct formatting. What a pain.
How I would love to save the work whilst you are writing it in the FSM interface. Being able to go back to the post over days would be incredible. And THAT... is exactly how it should be.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.
TB, over the years I've found that to be a common problem across most forums like this one. I don't know why it tends to happen on the longer posts.
IMO, Bill's suggestions are the most practical solutions.
In the meantime, I empathize with your frustration. Been there many times. I usually never start over.
No. At least within any practical limits.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Is there a word limit to posts here?
This isn't too uncommon, unfortunately.
You can try backing through your typing. You might get lucky and find a partial draft.
Better practice is to type in Word, and then cut and post into this window.
If you don't have Word but have an email account, type there, cut and paste, and delete (or save) the email. The advantage there is that most mail systems periodically auto save as you go.
